The original version is from the first City On A Hill recording. I believe Mac Powell of Third Day is doing lead vocals on the original version. So it originally is kind of a Third Day-song.

We were playing and singing God of Wonders in church a few years before 3rd Day(Mac Powell) recorded it, so I'm pretty sure its not originally done by 3rd Day, but I really don't know who wrote it or who originally recorded it.

Probably the most satisfying thing about this recording is that it shows the commitment Bob and John have to ministering. They are willing to have amateurs as a back-up band, perform before a few hundred (dozen?) people and put up with the crap of living on the road.

More than all their success, this diplays their willingness to follow the calling of the Lord.

May God Bless them richly, both here and when we're all called home.

Just because I was curious, I googled "God of Wonders" and found that it was written by Marc Byrd and Steve Hindalong. Besides Third Day, it has been recorded by Chris Tomlin, Rebecca St. James and Cademon's Call (among others I'm sure).

Here's the story of the song:

And just to stir the pot, here's some thoughts on the song (and P/W in general). I don't necessarily agree with all of his points, but his central conclusion is fairly sound.

Surprised!

I was so excited to hear anything by these guys, and they really did a great job. But my first thought was, "Where's all this new stuff I heard Bob was writing?" I was really excited to hear some original Bob Hartman style P@W.

I can't help but wonder if they have hopes for this work beyond what we know. Think about it. This CD is more along the lines of Petra Praise II than Revival was. Revival seemed to be a very bad experiment to me. But I truly think this stuff could get the snot played out of it if it was promoted to AC Christian radio (or whatever the new format name is). I NEVER felt that way about Revival.

As soon as it comes out, I'm going to request some of it and see what happens. We have a couple of stations in Georgia that have been supportive of Petra.

Yeah, first thing I thought of was Petra Praise 3. Maybe this is album is sort of testing the waters, and if it does well, perhaps Bob and John will feel confident doing a follow-up album with original songs.

I think the samples sound great! I don't think they can really go wrong on this project for the simple fact that the stuff sounds current, and since they're not technically going by the name "Petra", there isn't any pre-conceived ideas of what it should be. I hope theis project does really good for the 2 guys, and hopefully more will follow on down the road. BTW, Merry Christmas folks.
