Digital Release: Petra - Top 5: Hits

Post by p-freak » Fri Jan 05, 2007 10:43 am

I've just stumbled into a 'new' digital release by EMI/CMG. Apparently it was necessary to create a fake release to try to make some more money. I have made a page on my website: http://home.filternet.nl/~p.th.vanwinge ... its01.html, with details.

Is there perhaps someone with a better computer than mine that can post some links here? I've seen it on walmart.com and napster.com. It's probably all over the music-download-websites that carry EMI/CMG music.

Now, if you owned Petra's catalog, you would sell it too right? What's wrong with that? You don't want Bob making any money? EMI has stated that they are releasing ALL of their assets for digital download. This is going to get some exposure because book and music store sales are low and discriminatory in product selection and marketing.

I totally don't object to EMI making their entire catalogue available at download-websites.

All Petra's EMI-released albums are available for download. It's a little bit weird to make some kind of digital greatest hits album with only five songs, when four of these were released together in the More Power To Ya download-package. I don't see how this will rouse any extra interest. I think it might even discourage people from buying the More Power To Ya download-album, because they already have the four best songs.

In the USA, CD sales are down, internet downloads are way up. On average, there are more single downloads than albums. The numbers say that there is little likelihood that people seek out a CD to buy after downloading the big hits anyway.

I guess I'm in the minority here because for some odd reason I seem to like the songs on CD's that the Labels/Artists don't actually release to the public, but also the last brand new CD I bought was the Farewell CD and DVD. I buy all my CD's used now.
