Actually, if I had faded that banner into blue instead of yellow, it would be perfect ! :-)

BTW: Did you get my e-mail? I asked you about sending me the CD version of the song "The Betrayal" featuring Greg X Volz!
That would be nice :-)

sue d. wrote:Glad you all like it... Trodland did a great job on it. Between the two of us, it certainly was a labor of love! (ever try to make a website by EMAIL ONLY? With someone who's native language is NOT English? But Terje was great.... his English was excellent, and he kept up great with everything I kept giving him to do) .

What videos do not download? If something isn't working right, let me or Trodland ([email protected]) know.

Now I just have to watch the bandwidth so we don't shut down again!
sue,
i couldn't download enter in, sight unseen, i need to hear from you, destiny, dance, love, seen and not heard and creed. the others i could and they were great. maybe it's my computer? :)

Working

Post by trodLAN » Fri Sep 21, 2007 1:47 am

All the video on both sites are working, and have worked fine from day one after the "Launch". If they are not working, it may be a host problem, try download later on...
Note: There are different kind of mediafiles on the fans site. Wmv-files are "streaming", and MPEG-files sometimes needs to be downloaded before playing...
The safest to do is "right-click" on a video-pic and choose "save target as". Then play the downloaded file in a decent mediaplayer.
Like VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) or Windows Mediaplayer 9x

Actually, we ARE using css that controls fonts, colors o.a. on all pages.
If we edit main.css, we alter all pages at the same time.
This web page project started (as far as I know) several years ago, and many people have been developing on it. But no one finished! I have the last two months helped Sue finish this project, and the new web page is more modern than the old one. But if we should have started from scratch, it probably would have been different.
There is nothing on these new pages that req. php-code.
It was made in html to fit the mySQL db that it connects to.
The web page is built over the old one, using the same dbconnect.

BTW: You have a very nice looking site ezequiel!

Thank you for wanting to help, Eze.

Like Trodland said, this site as you see it was started by another person over a year ago. He quit. Then ANOTHER person started working on it, and he disappeared. Now Trodland jumped in and actually finished the project, for which I am VERY grateful!

I know the design is not flashy or super-fancy, but it's 100 times better than the OLD star site, which was horribly old and outdated.

But the purpose of this site is to give lots of information and history of John and Petra (since John started) , and I think it does that!

I would be happy to add some extra flash/sparkle as time goes on... maybe we can do this, Eze. Thank you for offering!

IIGuys.com -- yes, Bob is working with somebody on that. I don't know who it is, but the site is halfway done. I don't know why it is not done yet.

php

To clarify something... the site DOES use php in several places to enable back-end stuff like adding new concerts to the concert schedule pages, adding new links to photo pages, that sort of thing. If you think that just because the files don't end with .php that they are not php files, you are sadly mistaken. 8)

I have no idea what AJAX would be needed for in this case... usually that is used for some kind of interactivity with a search or form or something like that. The menu system is DHTML I believe, and I suppose we could AJAX that if there were some need for the menu to change dynamically, but the information on the site doesn't really change frequently enough to require that kind of effort.

A good Web site is a good Web site... the technology isn't a deciding factor in most cases. Is a great novel less great if it's printed in paperback? Of course not. I think the new sites, both of them, look very nice and are easy to get around. Whether they are done with php or ASP or ColdFusion or WebSphere or perl or plain old HTML doesn't matter when I visit a site. The key is whether it is attractive and whether I can find what I came to the site for.

Besides, trodLan mentioned how he's used CSS for the project. Isn't 2 out of 3 enough for you? :)

you're right

Post by trodLAN » Thu Oct 04, 2007 11:15 am

Michael is right! There is a lot of php programming from the old fan site that is used to update the new fan site. Like I said earlier, it's build upon the old one, and Sue is using the same "manager interface" to update the fan site in several places.
I have not contributed anything with php and sql programming. That is done by Michael alone. There are some great programming stuff behind this fan site, and I didn't want to redesign a fan site that was not compatible with this exsisting manager interface code. Therefore I did all pages in plain html. By doing it this way, it's easier for others to help Sue with the website(s). Asp-pages could not be used due to the fact that the host doesnt support MS-codes! The promoter site AND the new fan site is made within the same environment, and are working well together with php and mySql!
I totally agree with MJ when he says what a good website is all about.
BTW: ezequiel, - you have a great looking website, and you have some skills not found everywhere - you are good at both programming AND artwork! That is rare :-)
If your english had been better, maybe I had understand you more correct!? ;-) (lol - I'm from Norway myself...augh!
