I'll drop Bob an encouraging email once in awhile. I purchase their merchandise and include them in my prayers.

For some reason, we're afraid to discuss critically the band and their music. I guess intelligent conversation is not welcome.
It's because they are Gods to some people and not what they really are: fallen men who believe in God and play music for money for Christians to buy.

I get the whole thing about them being fallen men and all that, but do we always have to nitpick every single mistake they make? I mean God forbid Bob ever misses a cord, or John sings a single note off key, stuff like that always seems to overshadow the entire concert, or song that they do, FOUR years after they retire as Petra.

I love Petra just as much, if not more than some of you. And just for the record no one is a God to me except for the one true GOD. If John and Bob came out today and said they would never play or sing again, I would be sad, but I would move on with my life and just enjoy their music from the past.

For the record I have no problem with critical discussion about the band or their muisc, when it is lagit. If you want to have an intelligent conversation then lets have one, but find something worth discussing, instead of constantly nitpicking things and making comments about it.

Who is picking on them? No musician, singer or drummer (notice drummers aren't lumped in with musicians hahaha) perform perfectly consistantly, especially with age.

It is a matter of preference and perspective really.

Could you elaborate on the second point to help me understand.

I am a fan of PDC btw.

Its really not nitpicking. Just a general comment. Musicians can have good and bad days.

I saw the band early in the Farewell Tour (2nd or 3rd date), and they looked tired then. It no doubt affected their playing.

BUT, they went on the road without all the gear/personnel of earlier tours. I'm sure they helped set-up and tear down, but for no other reason but to minister and to say "farewell!!".

Believe me, I listen to Petra 75% of the time. I think Bob is grossly underrated. I think John is still the best singer out there. And I do believe Greg and Paul were as much part of Petra as Ronny and Louie.

I also believe you can comment ona perfromance.

I'm off to see the Newsboys tonight for the first time, and I'm sure I'll have an opinion on that as well.

The church is checking with their AV Dept. to see when it will be done... I'll let you know as soon as I have something!

Course then I'll have to mail it to Trodland to work on, because I'm not any good at all with video.

In fact, if it wasn't for HIM there would be no jws.com...!

Trodland is a man with enough fame that his name is known throughout the Petra universe!

No, seriously, we do owe him a debt of gratitude for everything he's done.

Oh trust me I'll NEVER forget the night I was searching google and found petrafiles.com! I remember waking up my brother at about 3 a.m. saying that I had found early footage of John Schlitt live with Petra. I think he just uttered "Beyond Belief days?" I said "YESSS!!" lol!

But it was very exciting - I'd still love to see a release of something from the Wake Up Call days. A DVD release would be awesome - I know I saw some Washington DC footage of them from 94 and John sounded sooo good (as did the whole band) and I just love the "Wake Up Call" songs. Be cool to see late '93 with Lawry still in the band.

THANK YOU TRODLAND - For bringing us JohnWSchlitt.com and also for ALL the audio and video you've shared with Petheads the whole world over!! :D

We actually saw them twice on the Farewell Tour(one show in the middle and one near the end) and Petra looked as engerized as ever at both shows. I'm sure you just saw them on an off night, because they didnt look tired or worn out after either show.

I saw them when they came to Oklahoma and John was sick that night but I didn't know it until Sue said something about it on here.
So even sick John still sounded good.
