ABout the Corrupt Christian Music Website

I went to the corrupt music website after reading what I read in the off topic section about Petra being on there.

I'm not a very eloguent so I will try and make my point as well as I can. Its obvious the guy that runs the website doesnt like Christian rock at all and thinks its worldy. He also doesnt like most CCM. In fact what I gatheres is anything besides church organ music is considered currupt.

There are 2 points on his website that I agree with however. First off is the banner for the Passion Of The Christ Movie. I happen to also think the movie is a perversion of God and of his word. I also do not like it when Christian bands note thier secular influences, bands, artists what have you. Like the guy listed for the members of Third-Day.

About what he mentioned about Petra. I certainly do not agree with his analysis and judgement of Petra. I mean yes granted there are some songs on Beyond Belief that resemble some Bon Jovi, and some Def Lepperd songs. I dont know if Bob intended them to sound like those bands. We have already been through the Seen and Not Heard debate about it sounding like a riff in a Kiss soung. I am on the rock, does sound like Pour Some Sugar on Me, but yes only musically,and like I said I dont know whether bob was aware of this but again its just musically not lyrically. I guess that would fall into this guys arguement as appearing to Petra to want to attract the secular I dont know..

Any opinions on this..

Who are PETRA supposed to be attracting? ONLY christians? That's an absolute joke if you believe in the 'Great Commission' that Jesus challenged all of us in! I think whatever music style it takes to reach the lost....go for it! Why do think so many churches are operating in the 'Seeker Sensitive' format nowadays? Jesus was the best example we could ask for....he ministered to the sick, the depressed, the ones who were completely dead to sin. He was there with them.

Valid point about some Petra songs SOUNDING like some secular bands but Petra has a completely different message! It doesn't make them secular and again...who are we trying to reach?

Personally, I feel the corrupt christian website is just that....corrupt. Their information is completely without merit. All credit for trying to communicate with them but, unfortunately, I believe it may truly be in vain. Here's the best thing we can do for them.....PRAY! 'Don't Let Your Heart Be Hardened' but pray for them!

Honestly, I cannot think of any other band whose lyrics are so 'spot on' and biblically correct than PETRA. Carry on, boys!

The guy that writes on that site is an idiot, period. Ask the guy about Psalm 150 and see what he says, he can have no reply. I have yet to see anything perverted in the Passion of Christ Movie so I do not follow you there at all.

Why shouldn't a band list their secular music influences. Secular is not a synonym for satanic. It means not of a religious nature. I see a Christian band say, " I listened to a lot of Skynard growing up" and I know what they are talking about. It's a sad fact, but most people would not know what you meant if you said, "I listened to a lot of Mylon Lefevor." They would say who in the world was that?

Music is God's property. We can either use it for His glory, or not.

As to the Passion. The hardest thing in being a Christian trying to share the Gospel, is all of the critizism. Here is Mel Gibson, a respected hollywood guy, who says, " I want people to wake up and think about what Christ did for us. What's the best way to do that? A HUGE Budget movie, that I'll pay for myself."

Mel Gibson's rep. was not done any favors over this movie, but he wanted to share the Gospel the biggest and best way he knew how.

The irony is, if he had made a shoot'em up classless thriller, we'd go see it and think nothing of it.

When was the last time any of us gave a witness on a national platform??

I think is awesome that christian musicians have secular influences. Music is music, the ideas and the lyrics of the author makes them "christian" or "secular". God made music and as christians we are just taking what is ours too.

People said "rock was made by the devil". Number one, the devil can`t create anything, just can take something and use it. God gave us creativity for making things of the things that already exist. I was talking with a friend of mine who loves metal music and gotic and all that. I was listening some stuff he wanted to show me and i thought "man, if christians just would listen these styles and take them for glorifiyng God, sigh."

Many christians are so closed that when they wanna make music the thing they make is not good, ya know what I mean?, I`m not talking of anyone of here ok?. Here in my city I have seen that, guys wanna make something different and they ended doing a bad copy of something because they "doin`t listen secular" so they don`t hear anything new.

Here there`s a band called "agent 12" is ska music, man they are awesome, but ya know what? , they are imitating the supertones, because supertones are christian. so if the supertones wouldn`t dare to listen secular stuff and decide to use ska for God, this band agent 12 wouldn`t exist because they would say "we don`t listen ska because is secular".

All is about daring, about taking courage for taking music, any style.

someone here said that this guy from that website thinks that out of the organ music, anything is goldly. Well, yesterday I was listening bands who use the organ and chorus "church style" and it wasn`t christian at all.

I have tried to get a response out of the guy via e-mail. He will not return any.

There are a couple of ignorant statements that he has made. In his attempt to be scriptural he is a heretic. He gives Satan, formerly Lucifer creative power. Satan has no creative power. If he had some, he could have replicated the resurrection of Christ, or made it so that all proof was lost. If he had creative power, he could correct many, many things documented in Bible-time wars, etc that would have propogated his works. Satan has no ability to create anything, so therefore, he has no ability to create any styles of music, chord progressions, etc. Man was given the ability to build instruments (read about Noah's family). Man uses the notes that God created. Music is audible mathematics. God created all things in order and disorder (read Genesis and Exodous), not Satan.

When people are asked about their musical influences, there is nothing wrong with mentioning true artists of their craft. There is nothing wrong with admiring the work of a lost sinner. The sinner is loved just as much, no more and no less, than you. They too are God's creation, for which He gave His life for. He gave the talent to play to them as well.

Some people think that God only uses the work of the saints. Well, how many 100% Christian owned/operated church bus manufacturers are there? NONE. How many churches use busses to do the Lord's work? Most all. How many of that businesses products were made by 100%by Christians? None.

How many churches were constructed by 100% Christian construction companies, or are upplied by Christian companies, or even have 100% Christian membership and pastoral staff? NONE. Don't be so small minded to think that those outside of the fold are not going to be brought in one day, and that their craft wasn't meant to influence someone else who was using theirs for the Glory of God.

This guy also gets worked up over music controlling emotions. Sure it does. God made us. God made music. God made our nervous system to react to it. How is it evil for our bodies to perform as designed? After all, God used a heavy beat. He told the Israelites to put the drummers and musicians first, and they offered praise, the battle cry, and got the people worked up for war. We are in a daily war people. Get your music in front of you, not the other way around.

Now, my other point is, don't all preachers orchestrate a sermon to motive and move people? How is that any different than the mind control that music is said to have?

I like what you said about the building construction and stuff. I think we are being unfair with music.

if secular music can`t be heard by christians, what about other arts as literature or painting? if I don`t paint something of the Bible and decide to pain , I don`t know, an street from new york, does that make wrong?

or what about novels and poetry? if I don`t write 100% about God only then am I wrong?, if close minded people are gonna talk like that about music they gotta be fair, if they are gotta be close minded about music, they gotta do it with the rest of things.

God gave us talents and a way of praise Him is using those talents and make them bigger, use them for good ya know. Yeah, God wants us to worship Him and talk about Him but he won`t get mad if you write a song or a book or make a paint related to the love you feel for your wife or about the injustice in the world and stuff.

in reading these posts and then going to the website to see for myself, i don't find much of what he says worth worrying about. As i read his comments they were without facts and no basis to back them up. i wouldn't worry to much about his views.

I'm new, so I won't write lengthily (I'm also kinda lazy after an allnighter) but it is sad that there are sites that attack bands like Petra (I also saw one that was rather vicious to dcTalk). We can't judge anyone's heart or motives, but we CAN judge their fruit. Petra continues to minister to people...but what do these sites say to those who do not know Christ as their Lord and Savior?
