Of course we're all thrilled that Bob and John have joined forces on this project. Excellent!! But what many of ur are concerned about is that they will not reach their full potential when they use the name and album cover that are being discussed here. It has totally nothing to do with ungratefullness or being critical for the sake of just being critical. We want the best from and for Bob and John and many of us have expressed their sincere opinion that 'II Guyz From Petra' and this album cover will just not work to their advantage.

I don't think anyone is being "mean" to Bob or John. Much of this discussion came about because Petheads asked other Petheads what they thought and what they would name it if they had the choice. Personally, I'd be real surprised if John has even seen the cover or has much opinion since it is primarily Bob's project.

As for Bob, he's a big boy and I think he can take the heat. If he reads this stuff at all, he is probably amused by it. He may even think he is doing a service for mankind because if we are picking on him, it means we're giving someone else a break!

Seriously though, if his heart is set on what he's picked and feels he is doing the right thing for the project and his budget, nothing we can say should change his mind. On the other hand, perhaps he's been given some other ideas. We'll just have to see what happens

If they're going to go so far as to use Petra in the name, why not just call it Petra? If they were worried about the name of Petra being a turnoff, then why use it at all? I think enough people recognize who Bob Hartman and John Schlitt are without having to explicitly say "Hey, these guys were in Petra". If you'd buy a CD because it has the word Petra in the name, you'd also know enough the buy a Hartman/Schlitt CD.

Regardless of what they choose, I am thrilled that they're even releasing a new album. My vote though, would be to just call it Petra. After all, in the liner notes of J&H it credits Petra as being Bob Hartman and John Schlitt, and only those two. So from that standpoint, the new CD is Petra. But, a rose by any other name would still sound as sweet.

My Space

Post by Bill F » Sat Dec 30, 2006 1:48 pm

Hello Hero. Good to see you back. I remember you. Look up their "My Space" site. It shows both the original art that most people didn't like along with what I think they are currently going for. The one with the orangish II is the original.

If you haven't heard the songs, I think it turned out really well. Their My Space name I think is just II Guys. Google that and you'll find it.

The red/black site name 'icon' is part of the original design, but the actual album cover is in the soundclip section.

Both are in the photo section.

seems to look pretty good, the vaunted cathederal ceiling. i like it. but this isn't what many fans have been sore about is it? oh well, if this is what the guys are going with, i think it's great :)

The "new" album cover is about 100% better, though I'm still not too crazy about the name "II Guys From Petra". I think "Hartman & Schlitt" would be much better.
