Dallas and Mississippi shows cancelled; reason why
re
Me too Shell..I have been listening to Petra since the early 80's and I have never been able to catch them live. I finally was going to be able to see them in Dallas..had my tickets bought..and they cancelled. Totally ruined my week! I don't understand. At least I did get to see Stryper this past Sunday night in Ft. Worth! That was totally awesome! It would have to be an amazing show to top that one! I have seen MANY MANY concerts and Stryper is the best one by far!

Touring
Well, I have to add my five cents worth in here. As much as I agree that PETRA should be touring and I know it takes EXPOSURE for people who don't know you, to see who you are and what you are about, as well as your music.
Yet, I know from first hand experience that it also takes lots of money to go out and do this. I've been touring since August and I know I'm not a grammy winning band, I'm not anyone that's known anywhere and probably can't compare at all, but I can just imagine that for a band like PETRA the cost for touring is not cheap. It's not cheap for my husband and I and we live very carefully and travel with our 72 Motorhome. We just do it because we hope to bring the joy of God's love to people and encourage them, not to make money. Yet the financial blessings that the Lord grants us as we are on the road is our income for now until the Lord tells us to do differently.
For PETRA that's a different situation, because that's been their bread and butter for 30 someodd years....they can't pay to play.
I agree, if someone would pay me to go somewhere and the trip would be free, I'd go and I'm not sure why management said 'no', which is really sad, because God could have used this band to reach to someone's life.
Yet neither of us knows what it really takes to run this band on the road and we need to be careful with making judgements on things we don't know. We know what we see on the outside and the surface and it doesn't look good, I agree.
Yet I do know one thing, we have a Heavenly Father, who is all knowing and He is STILL in control. There is always a reason for why things happen the way they do and if it's the enemy's attack, the Lord can turn this around and use it for good. For the good in someone's life who may need to learn something. We do not know.....but GOD does.
The one thing that we ARE TO DO is PRAY, pray for them daily and pray for tender hearts, and listening ears to bend to God's will, (including praying for the management) and for strength and provision so that this band CAN go out and do what they are called to do.

Yep.
You're right Sam. We can trust God here.
Hey, I got to hear you in Sue's living room, I'm glad you're getting out there. Folks definitely need to hear you...
I got to see Stryper too. I'll refrain from raving about Michael Sweet here
but see my post under the Stryper thread in the off-topic section. They rocked. I think my ears are still ringing, I meant to take some cotton and I forgot.

I've said before that the band just needs to play wherever they can get gigs so that people can see them.
But I don't know what personal, financial, or professional issues are going on behind the scenes. I don't know whether somebody's out of vacation days at their day job and can't afford to go on the road for one or two shows. I don't know who's bankrolling these trips, or who isn't telling whom what's going on.
I don't know (and neither do any of you) why these decisions are made the way they are. There are four guys in the band, plus a manager. Any one of them could force a cancellation by vetoing a show.
I sure hope, though, that the guys are aware that people are talking about this.

the story
I got the impression from Russell that John & Bob knew nothing of his offer. Russell is a very generous man, and wealthy I might add, and will bend over backwards to get solid CCM artists in his venue. He is a ministry first type of guy. In no way is he blaming Petra, but I don't think he will ever deal with their manager again. He has been burned 2 times now by the same guy. He just really feels frustrated because he is a huge fan and respects John & Bob so much and this happens because of a third party.

They need our prayers!
This is really a BAAAAD time for this kind of thing to be happening to Petra. They have an awesome album that has gotten the attention of many in the christian and secular music bizz...the band should be getting calls from everywhere to book em. Wonder why we are not seeing the dates??? People can see through all of this junk! That is the reason we are not seeing the bookings. Something has got to give here. We are tired of this stuff happening....I wonder if Petra is yet??
We need to be PRAYING hard for this situation!

Ray
I went to the Stryper concert in Hollywood. It had been awhile since I'd been there, hahaha
Although that particular part of Hollywood isn't quite as bad as other parts of that wonderful city.
They rocked. Which one did you go to?

I think a chief needs to address the Fans on this one,and right now I just see a bunch of little Indains. Maybe if the band was living week to week like my family, they would have done the concert to put food on the table. After all,They are not filling up stadiums anymore, and don't seem to wanna do the smaller venue's. If the manager has a problem with the Door owner,I would think that John or Bob would have some say so,whether to do the concert or not. It's the same old song and Dance with these Guys. I have had many lost people tell me that they are in it for the MONEY alone! and thats it.Not about sharing the Gospel and winning souls. I had plans in taken some of these people to the concert and I don't think I will be telling them that Petra Cancelled due to money issues. All I know is that someone needs to get on the Ball! Tell the Fans the truth and quit Jerking everyones Chain. Do the concert if your gonna post it all over the web and get peoples hopes up. Things happen where Bands do have to cancel, things beyond the Bands control such as Illness or something,But this fight over the Dollar is insane! That goes for Bands,Church's etc.I think the fans deserve some good answers for this ongoing occurance.

.....
I don't think the people who say that understand Petra, dfw. I think if they were in it for money they'd have quit a long time ago. They haven't been bringing in any money.
I agree, it was a bad decision not to do the show, but let's not judge them and assume that because a bad decision was made that they're in it for the money. They do need to get out there and do shows though I agree.

Shell,
I did not say it's all money! But the picture is being painted like it is. If it were not for Petra,God may have not been able to get thru to me and make me realize that he loves us. It takes money to operate, but it takes true believers to carry the word to all the people in the world.
Let your light shine in all you do!!!!

Money
He. I thought Amy Grant was supposed to be the one who was about money.
Sorry, I know that's bad.
Guys, let's not get into it about money. I think everyone agrees the guys need to do more shows, and that's what the issue is here. We may not agree with them about the Dallas show, but they did what they did for whatever reason. Let's stick to what we've pretty much agreed on: They need to do more shows.
