I've heard it too, greenchili.
I find it interesting how people often mention that there were "so many" (4) slower songs on this album, supposedly proving they were becoming more mellow starting here. But the preceding album also has four slower tempo songs-I believe all of the slower songs on WUC are far superior to Hand on My Heart.

This was the first Petra album I bought when it was new. I think I got it at the WUC tour date I went to. My vote would go to Just Reach Out. This song does give you goosebumps. Close seconds would go to Marks of the Cross and Sleeping Giant. A great rock record. Not the start of Petra's decline though. That would be the next record. Great tour too.

Is it just me, or does Ronny Cates bass playing seem more prominate on this one?

I think Ronnie's bass sounded upfront not only on WUC but also on UP. Also the thing about Petra playing Just Reach Out on the WUC Tour, I believe they played but with it being 12-13 years back I could be totally out of it and wrong. Interesting note: I saw them twice on this Tour and the first time John Lawry was still touring with them, but the second time around Jim Cooper was with them. Nothing against Jim but boy you could really feel the difference.

Yeah I was listening to UP again this week and I noticed Ronny bass more as well. Guess I missed it first time round last week.

I think they changed their harmonizing around a little as well.

Ronny's bass was the strongest on On Fire, I think.

One thing I've been meaning to say about John and I'm assuming he writes his melodies as well as lyrics. But he is one of the few lead singers who seems to write stuff that compliments his voice. I've seen too many singers get into writing their music but then the vocal qualities go down hill.

This is a great album!!

Good News always reminded me a litlle of AC/DC.

I think the problem with this album was not that it had slower songs, but that they were all in order just about. 3 of the 4 are back to back. That where it loses steam.

Best song: Underneath the Blood

The talk box in the song is very cool. I wanted one for years after that album. My wife bought me one for Christmas a few years back. The coolest thing was actually getting to use it while playing Underneath the Blood with John Schlitt in Sheboygan! You can't beat that!

Tough call, but my vote would be for Believer in Deed. Very inspirational, love the lyrics. I only hope that when my life has ended similar things can be truthfully said of me.

Strong Convictions was in the running for my vote. I love the guitar work behind the vocals on the second verse, in particular. I liked the not-quite-unplugged feel of this song.

Good News tied for second on my ballot. Great guitar effect in the song's intro; the first 3-4 measures alone are enough to make the song worth listening to. It sets a raw tone that matches the lyrical content about the chaotic, negative world we live in very well. Then later in the song, the tone changes for a short time to match lyrics about about the rock that is a refuge in a chaotic world ("the world needs to hear the good news of the love of God's son"). Petra often absolutely nailed the match between music and lyrics for me, which was a large part of their appeal (recognizing that what sounds like such a match will vary from person to person).
