Man, it should have sounded incredible with Bob and Mark using real amps. I hope they use real amps through the whole tour.

This is a dream come true, I always wanted to see Greg up fronting the band in my life time. By the time I realized Petra existed, 1987, Greg was long gone, so all I could do is collect all the old cassetes and marvel at the amazing music that happened before i found them. Thanks God for the blessing of having Petra back, and in what way!!!!

There is a big stink about real amps live. I propose that with IR and modeling being as good as it is, few people could tell a difference through a PA system, where speakers operate at 30% distortion, amps at 10% THD into 2 ohm loads, etc, never mind the room, the mic on the cabs, etc. In some cases, IR is better than a real amp for many touring bands and is now the norm. I almost bet you money that Bob was getting his tone from his Digitech. He loves that thing. If you look closely, you will not see a mic and cable in front of that Marshall cab. He is likely going from the Digitech to a DI, taking a split out to the head input and the line out to the house. The amp is for support and looks on stage.

Most of the Marshall heads from the past 15 years or so have cab emulated line outs on them, so it's possible he IS using the Marshall, and just going direct to the board from the head, and using the cab for monitoring on stage. I know from personal experience that the line out does NOT sound as good a properly mic'd cab, but it's not bad...still sounds better than a lot of modelling, IMO. BUT, a little EQing between the line out and the board can go a long way to making it at least somewhat better.

But you are right, Brent, very few people would know the difference anyway!
