NO DOUBT
Re: NO DOUBT
Think On These Things is one of my favs on the album too. Crisp sound and catchy Hartman chorus.

Re: NO DOUBT
I have always liked No Doubt more than most it seems. No Doubt was a different sound (alternative type rock) from what Petra had been doing so that may be one reason why people didn't like it as much. But I think it was the high number of ballads that turned people off and why people feel like it was more of a Schlitt album. It does have the same kind of feel as Schlitt's first album which I also liked the ballads on that album. However, I loved all the ballads on this album and therefore find it a very good album. I like all the songs to a degree but find myself listening to the ballads more from this album where other Petra albums I listen to the rockers more. I also seem to differ on the rock songs because my favorites are "Enter In" and "Heart Of A Hero" where it seems others like "Think Twice" or "Right Place". Which are the two that actually took me the longest to like on this album. But thats the way music goes, people like and appreciate different things in a song. I like the fact that Petra could change it up and do something far different from what they had been doing (and in my opinion do it well). Not many bands can do that.

Re: NO DOUBT
Your taste in the rockers sounds similar to mine.

Re: NO DOUBT
My experience with No Doubt was good. When I was a high school in the mid 90's this was a really cool album.. A few of my friends who were non Christian got this album after they heard me crank it on Dad's stereo..
The last song on the album I used to love/hate because I thought now Bob was not in the band it was all over red rover. I remember crying thinking, what am I going to listen to now. Was blessed to have another 10 years of Petra even if it wasn't all rock from 1995 to 2005.
I really have to say this is one of their best albums for me because of what was going on in my life at the time with stuff like Alcohol, Drugs, girls and stuff. it was the only thing that kept me straight in line with God most of time.

Re: NO DOUBT
Yep, No Doubt was a great album. I agree with Enosh.
Some of my all-time favorites...
Enter In
Think on These Things
You're in the Right Place
No Doubt
We Hold Our Hearts Out to You
The two songs I don't much care for therein are Heart of a Hero and More Than a Thousand Words. I know a lot of you seem to like HOAH - I agree that the lyrics are great, but musically I never got into it.
I have a question. What was the disaster that several of you have alluded to re: Lichens? I guess I was out of touch during that period because I don't know about it!

Andy, here's a link to an article that might help answer your question, and it's in a magazine and available on the Internet so I'm okay with posting it.

There is a Petra page on wikipedia too in case you haven't had a chance to check it out. That is where I got the link.

thank you, Shell
Thanks for the above link, Shell. Sounds like Lichens was difficult to get along with, to say the least. A reminder that one bad decision re: personnel can cause irreparable damage to an organization.
I really like some songs on the God Fixation album, despite the difficulties that were going on with Petra at the time.

Re: NO DOUBT
There are bound to be issues when you're in a band and constantly traveling with other people, even when you do get along. It escalates when you're not getting along. I'm glad the article was helpful. That's the only one that I know of that addressed the issue and it's pretty straightforward.

Re: NO DOUBT
It's funny, I was just thinking about this album today and then came in and saw this thread. The album does well for a while and then just falls off the map near the end. The only real weak song in the first seven is More Than A Thousand Words. Sincerely Yours and For All You're Worth really drag down the last part of the album. Think on These Things is Good, and so is We Hold Our Hearts, but after listening to the other two, I find I don't even care much about it anymore. I feel the album went too long. Cut those two songs out and it's a much stronger album. And We Hold Our Hearts would get the attention it deserves.

Re: NO DOUBT
It's a decent album overall with its share of good songs and not so good songs. I think the real killer is the stylistic inconsistency. It's almost as if the band was trying out several different styles to see if they could find a new sound that would "stick" and carry them into the future.

Re: NO DOUBT
That is one of the reasons for me to dislike the album so much; there is no flow to the songs, almost every song has a total different feel to them. None except for maybe the title cut have a good Petra feel to them.Mountain Man wrote:It's a decent album overall with its share of good songs and not so good songs. OK, so who likes NO DOUBT?
I'm not a music expert like some of you. To be honest, the talk about stylistic consistency is a bit over my head. However, it occurs to me that if they had produced an album with songs that sound pretty much alike, they'd probably have then been criticized for not having enough variety. Sometimes you can't win!
So, how many of you die-hard Petra fans do like NO DOUBT? How many dislike it?
My vote - it's a great album!

Re: NO DOUBT
I hate it!! The worse Petra album of all time, its the only Petra album I no longer own a copy of. I think why I was so disappointed in No Doubt was because Wake Up Call is one of my favs and I could not believe this was the same band. I believe this started the decline.
