Yes. At that time Darrel Harris at Star Song gave us Petra's business model and that is what we used. Louie was the only one not to buy in.
I think that Louie's statement on that video was what it was. Not many bands survive changes in front men. Very few.
During the that time, for many reasons, Petra could have been in a pickle. John and Louie both admitted that John's first six month were difficult for everyone. John had not performed in years and had to relearn how to sing balls-to-the-wall night after night. When John's voice gave out early, they worried. But in time John was back on top of his game.

I definitely think that there were many people, Christian and non-Christian, who knew who John was.sue d. wrote:I think it's more the fact that a LEAD SINGER is a very high-profile position compared to other band positions.
The singer is the one who quite often speaks for the band on stage, does most of the interviews, and is more outspoken simply because of his position as FRONT man. You have to be certain this is the right man for the job, because he is representing YOU as the band.
SU, do you really think the folks in ccm really knew about Head East and John - when he hadn't been in the band OR the public eye for five years? I kinda doubt it.
