Wrong
I never said anybody was wrong, just that I was first.

Sorry all you CITAS people. I checked into it, and CITS is correct!

CITS DVD Progress
I emailed Bob Hartman about it today. If he doesn't know where the master films are, or if he is unwilling to take part in the project, I'm not sure what the next step will be.

Re: CITS DVD Progress
I sure hope he can help out. It would be awesome to have it released on DVD.Michael wrote:I emailed Bob Hartman about it today. If he doesn't know where the master films are, or if he is unwilling to take part in the project, I'm not sure what the next step will be.
If it weren't for all the copyright restrictions, I bet the analog tape could be routed through a digital camcorder and converted to AVI or MPEG format. From there, it could be burned to DVD with the right software.
One of my hobbies is building home movies using VideoStudio 8 (Ulead) to burn to DVD. A non-copyrighted DVD can be ripped using VS8, edited and enhanced, and burned to DVD+R.
It seems that routing the VHS content through a digital camcorder would bypass anti-copy protection should any exist. VS8 would probably interpret the CITAS video as "homemade" which would likely yield a successful capture to MPEG, the format that was made for DVD.
As long as the original data source (the VHS tape) is still capable of good video, the result should be at least as good if not better than VHS. At least the DVD would be a great backup that could be replaced if the need arose.
I would probably try it if I had a copy of CITAS, and if the chances of getting a production DVD becomes highly unlikely.
If anyone has a copy of CITAS with the resources to attempt a digital conversion, let us know if you try it and what your results were (unless there's a risk of getting fined for copyright infringement).
But I think that if we're never going to get a production release of CITAS on DVD, then we should be left to our own devices!!
