PetraFounder wrote:Wow, some of you people are brutal! OK, here is the scoop. As some of you know, the CITAS masters were "lost" by Starsong years ago. No one knows where they went. So the only chance for a DVD is by using a VHS as a master and professionally transfering it. I personally oversaw this process at a profesional video editing place this week. I used my copy, which was in very good shape, especially considering it is 20 years old. I was getting emails from some of you letting me know you wanted it and that it was being sold illegally on Ebay and going for high dollars. So I looked into it and felt the only way it would ever be done is by us doing it. So I bought a license from EMI. Yes, that's right, I have to by a license to release it. Then there are artwork charges, mastering charges, manufacturing charges. So really, the question about releasing the other videos on DVD depend upon how well this one does. We might only sell 50 copies. We would then lose money and not do it again.
I know you will get more than 50 copies sold. I really hope that we do buy enough to get the other videos put out on DVD.

And if you think that's something, see our discussions on the theology of divorce in politics, or the politics of divorce in theology, or the divorce of theology and politics.

This thread is very mild compared to some that we've had...  In fact, even the more controversial threads recently have stayed relatively civil compared to some that we've had. There's bound to be conflict anywhere you have a group of people; you can't take it too terribly personally or it will drive you crazy. It can be sort of hard when you can't see or hear someone.

I think he simply means that we are never satisfied with what they do...But hey that's only because we alone know how great Petra is and therefore hold you guys to a higher standard. Yes we whine and moan incessantly about what Petra is doing because we love Petra.

Think of it as the musical version of the English Arts and Crafts movement. With more whining.

Now we must all buy at least 50 copies of this DVD for our friends and family so they definitely sell more than 50 copies. Then we can complain about the quality, the lack of add ons or whatever, and look forward to future releases to complain about. That's win-win.

PS our theological discussions have always been civil IMO-amongst some of the most civil and even friendly I have seen on the internet actually. We do not form eternal grudges based on the horrible things said in them (at least I don't think we do-that dead rat didn't come from any of you people did it? :P ). Disagreement has not made the discussions particularly nasty in any way.

Michael wrote:I hate to be pragmatic, but maybe Bob is protecting copyright interests. If it is possible to buy a copy of it from Bob, then it is not technically out of print, and bootleggers don't have a leg (or a boot) to stand on.
So your saying the motivation is the ability to be able to take legal action against people that are currently bootlegging the out of print product?

Sounds kinda silly to me. Especially considering that Bob apparently had to shell out some money to make this available as well as the fact that lawyers do cost money.

Regardless I'm glad to see Bob take the chance and put it out there. I'll be sure to be in line for this one.

Dead rat? Ew. The discussions recently have been good, but things have been known to get heated around here sometimes. And yeah, you're right, you can't hold eternal grudges.

Some people make very good efforts, believe me. I have seen posts to the effect of "Remember that time you offended me on that forum 5 years ago-that's why I'm making you miserable now." Crazy. And far more offensive than anything we've written.

And I think the rat was a prezzie from my kitties actually. :D

Anyway this post can be pinned. It really should be pinned so any new petheads that come thru here will catch it.

I'm sure alot of petheads also do not frequent here as much as some of us do.

Oh and PetraFounder. Thanks for putting forth the effort to bring CITAS to us Petra fans in an official capacity. I'm sure glad you put this one on your list first. I know it has the most demand.

Now it's just a matter of getting the word out.

Usually, the only person I get offended with is myself. But then again, I'm schizophrenic.

What if a person had schizophenia, and one of the alternate personalities was a cannibal. One morning he could wake up with an arm missing, but at the same time, not be hungry for breakfast.

I've told me and myself to stop doing that. Of course they told me and each other the same thing.

Schizophrenics do not have multiple personalities, they have vivid hallucinations and delusions. Not to sound picky, but the mischaracterization of this disease is a pet peeve of mine.

You have multiple personality disorder JS. Don't worry you are still out of touch with reality.
