Sadly I don't think this will be the last of them.

Yeah, I just noticed that the covers to "Petra Means Rock", "Power Praise" and "The Rock Block" were included on the the new cover. Somebody goofed as those are not albums but other compilations. This should be DOA. EMI really needs to get some people in there that knows what they are doing.

It's really dumb if you think about it. StarSong doesn't renew a contract with Petra in 1989, so they sign with Word and Star Song starts their compilation releases so they can make more money on Petra (Why didn't they just resign them and release new albums?)

So when can we expect the first Inpop compilation album?

It is not as simple as labels not resigning. There were good reasons for petra to change labels. I do not know all of the details but know enough from both sides. The motivation behind compilations is purely money. The labelx already own the assets. Investments are minimal. It is much cheaper than paying for a new album and all of the bands expenses.

I know in the case of Word, their relationship with the band had soured to the point that at that year's GMA week, Word circulated a press packet featuring a scathing review of "Double Take".

Interns assembled those press kits. I am not so sure that Word knew exactly what was in those kits. It did not benefit them to fund a record, put the record out, and then poop on it. You do not win a grammy. Grammy awards are bought and sold, bartered and traded. Word did their thing and got it a Grammy. It makes no sense to me for them to put resources into promoting the record, while discounting it.

If Word wasn't actively trying to sabotage Petra at the GMA that year then it shows that they at least didn't care enough about the band to make sure they were well presented (seriously, letting interns put together a press packet without double checking their work?).

Either way, it was definitely time for Petra to move on.
