New Song
Re: New Song
Again, that's great. Not saying he did or didn't say it would or wouldn't be free. I was just surprised.

Re: New Song
Either way, free or pay, the song sounds pretty good. BTW, most free Jesus music is bad music imo.

Usual mid day festival audience size for it being in an amusement park, Petra had a horrible time slot; Plus my understanding the festival was late in releasing the timeslots to the public. There probably were some Petra fans that never knew what time the band was scheduled to go on.

Also it was almost 90 and a lot of the people went over to the lawn area and hung out under the trees in the shade and watched from there.

Re: New Song
I don't think Petra is ever going to give us another arena-rock album like On Fire! or Beyond Belief. I don't know if a Petra album like that would even be widely popular these days. Personally, I think the Jekyll & Hyde sound is more mature and intimate while still sounding big and gutsy.mikey32187 wrote:I am probably going to get blasted for this but I for one dont want another album with a Jekyll and Hyde sound, I want something with a Beyond Belief or On Fire sound. I know musical styles change but I am not digging the overly crutchy JAH sound that Bob has decided to stick with since 03/04. He did the same with Classic Petra.

Re: New Song
It does make some sense to give it away for free. People, like us, who already own every other Petra song in existence weren't going to buy the compilation just for one new song. It's just not a tempting enough carrot, so Petra is saying, "Here. Thanks for your support." To people who don't own the entire Petra catalog, if they like the single then they'll be more inclined to buy the album.brent wrote:I am glad people get a freebee, especially if they are broke. That is Bob's deal.
My point is that I was surprised that Capital would allow a new song they are selling to be given away for free. That is not normal. It is not good marketing in my opinion. If they are giving away the one and only new song on the compilation album, what incentive is there for people to buy what is already out there and what they already own?
Someone else tied loving Jesus to free music. Loving Jesus has nothing with to do with free music. Saying that because Bob loves Jesus and therefor is giving the music away implies Bob just started loving Jesus recently.
So from a marketing and money making standpoint, I don't think it's going to hurt them at all.

Re: New Song
Keith Green tried that for a while, and he almost went bankrupt. Giving stuff away for free is not sustainable. That's why churches pass the collection plate every Sunday. Somebody has to pay or the ministry can't happen.Boray wrote:Think about this: When Petra started in the 70's, there was no way of making pro sounding recordings at home and there was no way of distributing music for free. Now there is. If Petra started out today, young and filled with the Holy Spirit, wanting to reach as many as possible, maybe they would have tried making free music. Who knows.

Re: New Song
At Creation they had a nice crowd down front. They had the opening evening timeslot. As big a crowd as for any current day act in that timeslot. Bigger festival though also.

Re: New Song
It may have been a case of reserved seating...festivals eserve approx. the first 10 rows for VIP Seating only. And of course those tickets cost more money too so not as many people buy them unless you're a DIEHARD FAN. VIP Seating is usually separated by a fence from the HUGE crowd.

Re: New Song
I haven't been to too many other festivals. The VIP seating is a fairly new thing for Creation, but they don't put it down front. The first 3rd of the arena is standing room only. No chairs are allowed. What they did for VIP was to fence off a small area in front of the sound tower on a raised platform. Us regular folk than can't afford those tickets can still get right down in front. It's a shame the rain came in because there was a nice crowd, and the boys were in fine form.
