What does the church have to do with Christianity?Jonathan wrote:Christianity should stay inside the walls of the church where it belongs.
Who would you like to see perform with John Schlitt?
Ahhh. I will go back to sniffing that line in my bible now.
BTW, I don't want to hear John sing with anyone on that list. My list would include:
Steve Perry with his old writing buddy and guitarist Lincoln Brewster
Vince Neal
Steve Augeri
Steve Walsh (the 70s-80s version with range and power)
Joe Elliot

I would go see John with backing tracks, but would much prefer the backing band. John would probably be the only artist I would do that for.sue d. wrote:Why is it that people will go see an instrumentalist that can't sing, but won't see a singer that can't play?
Is the voice any less of an instrument??
John's concerts don't charge out at $20... they're usually $10 or less depending on locale.
You can see a few bands for $20... but I'll guarantee you won't be seeing 4-time Grammy winners for that price.
Yes, backing bands are better than tracks, but in lieu of that I'll take a great singer over a mediocre band any day. Just my personal preference.

Darn it all to heck. Somehow I missed this one. This is a highly complex conundrum that assumes unsubstantiated truths.sue d. wrote:Why is it that people will go see an instrumentalist that can't sing, but won't see a singer that can't play?

Consider Christian music's own brown dirt cowboy (for you Elton John fans) Ray Boltz. He is not selling out large venues. He is doing smaller churches. He has many hits, songs of the year and Dove awards.
Mark Schultz enjoyed industry success and he isn't doing large halls on his own really. He is going out with Point of Grace (whoopie). Matthew West isn't that expensive on his own.
Bands with a stage show are more exciting. Just as people no longer listen to music alone for enjoyment, they do not really like concerts without the bling bling. Seeing a person doing karaoke is a bit boring sometimes. Can you imagine David Lee Roth singing to tracks? Good gawd, that bluegrass thing was a bad trip down the street named Crapola Ave.
Then there is only the demand aspect to consider. There has to be a reason for people to spend money on an artist. There are people willing to go see an artist because of their past music. Look at all of the old secular artists that will not retire.
John is known for Petra. People really don't care about Petra any longer (nor does the current church generation know about Petra). Playing that card may not be ideal. John has to be known for what he is doing now. John's music has to get out. Honestly, with three radio stations here, one of which is complete indie, he has no presence in Kansas or Missouri. Missouri should be a priority because Springfield and a couple of other cities have major Christian denominational colleges/seminaries there.
Those are my thoughts. John is great. We all know that. John deserves a new super charged vehicle to get him on the road to success again.
