Rez started the same year(1972) as Petra and their stuff in the 70's and early 80's is not only higher quality production wise, but higher quality overall.
As a fan of the early work of both bands, I would have to disagree.

Maybe the 70's, but the J.D.B years are hard to beat

I have never heard any thing from Rez band, are they similar to Petra as far as sound and style? Are they even still around??

No. They were harder, rougher, some times punkier, sometimes more electronically eclectic, less polished early on and equally over produced towards the end.
