Re: Can Petra make a comeback
The worst thing about the Farewell DVD is how hard the video producer tried to hide the fact that they were playing in a tiny venue to a tiny crowd. The aggressive editing tried to make it look bigger and more exciting than it really was and just ended up with something that I personally find visually confusing and very annoying to watch. Give me the Captured in Time and Space video any day where you can actually see what's happening because the shots are held for longer than half-a-second and you aren't bombarded with half-a-dozen crossfades every few seconds. That and the video absolutely butchered Bob Hartman's guitar solo by artlessly chopping a big chunk out of the middle.bakersfieldpethead wrote:But let me put it this way. The Farewell CD/DVD was recorded in a small place, they had to record extra audience tracks before the show, they invited out the die-hard petheads. All the videos you see of the late 80s and 90s where they show them in huge concerts were all done at concerts during their normal tours, Festivals and Mega Shows.

Re: Can Petra make a comeback
Is there any pethead that is a serious fan of the farewell video? I've seen some of the footage from the Delirious farewell DVD and it looks much better. I go back to Michael W. Smith's 20th anniversary live DVD and say that is the standard for quality and production, and Petra's Farewell should have been on par. But, I doubt Petra's DVD had that kind of money put into it.

I remember quite a few people who strenuously defended it at the time of release when some of us pointed out what a sloppy production it was (a handheld camera that is so shaky that it can't even keep its subject in frame or in focus is not a "style", it's a mistake).gman wrote:Is there any pethead that is a serious fan of the farewell video?

Re: Can Petra make a comeback
I was thinking about this earlier, and maybe what you had going on during the farewell period was something like this: Petra on the grand scale that it had been for so many years was no longer viable business wise. The guys fought valiantly for so long against doing Petra on a diminished scale that they were tired. They said maybe we want to retire. Let's get a farewell tour together, throw a live CD and DVD together and then call it a day. Except they realized after a short while, that retirement was not what they wanted. So, one thing led to another, and here we are. If they are willing do to embrace a smaller operation, I see no reason that can't continue on as long they are physically able.
Just a thought.

I was thinking of Delirious while reading this thread. They hung up their boots at the top of the game and went out on a sellout tour, recording a great Farewell DVD at one of London's biggest music venues (packed out), with a guest appearance from their ex-drummer(!). They'll easily have a market for a comeback tour in 10 years or so. Just like Petra could have done if they quit after Wakeup Call. Ah well, it's too easy to snipe from the sidelines.gman wrote:I've seen some of the footage from the Delirious farewell DVD and it looks much better.
