heheh You Guys.
Well I can help Elo out on the "no equivelent" score at any rate....
except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall. 1Sa 25:32
I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall. 2K 9:8
There are others, but the play on that in the Nabal story is probably the best one-how he dies tennis-playing against the wall.
King James English baby. Actually some Jews have noted that the KJV is actually the only Christian translation with the nerve to translate that phrase correctly. Even the NKJV does not.

I think we've all been had up! Read the latest news item on petraband.com - looks like we were right with our initial reaction thinking the cover (and title) were a joke!

Much better title! At the time of Petra's retirement at the end of 2005, the future was unclear for Bob and John. Both were pursuing other ventures outside of the music business when Bob received an invitation from Canada to lead worship for a youth retreat. Bob immediately thought of teaming with John, much to the delight of the sponsors. As Bob began arranging popular worship songs for the duo to perform, it became obvious that it wouldn't be much harder to make an album together. After several months of work it was time to christen the new venture. It will be called Vertical Expressions

Oh yeah. Nice going IMC. We had such a nice thing goin' here on the zone. Now we don't have anything to banter back and forth about.
That is a much better title though. I guess now all that's left is to argue about if the 2Guyz thing was just being test marketed here, or if it was nothing more that some wisenheimer's way of getting something happening around these here parts.

It's slang, it's not a swear word per se...It could mean the same thing as the Schlitt word.
It's another way of saying rotten, bad or nonsense. If you say something like, "I feel crappy," you're saying you're feeling bad, or if you say, "I'm tired of their crap," you're saying you're tired of their bad bahavior or nonsense. It's also a card game where you throw dice.

The "S-H-I _" word is a substitution for "crap". The toilet as we know it was perfected by a guy whose last name was Crapper. Hence the phrase, "Taking a crap" (huge apologies), you are full of crap, etc, etc. The S word came much later than Crapper.Shell wrote:It's slang, it's not a swear word per se...It could mean the same thing as the Schlitt word. It's another way of saying rotten, bad or nonsense. I for one do not use it in place of the S word. No I do not use the S word either. I just use it to infer that a situation, person or product is something undesirable to me.

There is a difference between being a fan of Petra, and being thankful for Petra.
I find that some fans are selfish about what they like or don't like. Selfish people are consumers. They just want a CD.
People who are thankful for the Petra ministry understand different things are done for different reasons to reach people who are different! When you're thankful its a "...sacrifice of praise..." (Hebrews 13:15, 16), and it's about what is right, not what you feel.
Thankful people are givers. They want a soul, and when it comes down to it, they'd give their CD to win that soul for Christ.

I'm not sure that any of us particularly fall into this category. But it's to be expected that (at least some) fans will be critical of a release. (It's the ones that aren't that worry me.) This isn't being selfish, unless hoping for the highest quality product for the artists' sakes is being selfish.DJ-Chaz wrote:I find that some fans are selfish about what they like or don't like. I personally am not a fan of CDs as an evangelical tool--and even less of P/W CDs for it. But I honestly don't see how these two things correlate at all. As far as I can tell, what you're saying is that critics aren't (or can't be?) evangelists.People who are thankful for the Petra ministry understand different things are done for different reasons to reach people who are different! What else does it mean when it says, "Be instant in season" if not "Critically examine your faith so that you have an answer ready for those who ask"? All evangelists had best be critics in some fashion or another.
While the criticism leveled in this thread could have probably been seasoned with a touch more grace, it is the nature of fandom and of the business, and a proper response of those who are genuinely concerned for how the project is going to turn out. We sure weren't nice about some of the other covers.

First, because a CD is too short to provide anything solid to grasp. Second, because most of the time, we use music as bait when we're supposed to fish with nets. Third, because most artists have a hard time articulating the gospel well (John did a pretty tremendous job hitting the high points in Unfit for Swine, IMHO).DJ-Chaz wrote:winterlens wroteJust out of curiosity. Why not? Then I have a question for you then. Are you a fan of an altar call at the end of a concert?I personally am not a fan of CDs as an evangelical tool
As a rule, I oppose altar calls, too, because it is usually an emotional reaction with little connection to solid spiritual reality, and because it tends to de-emphasize the personal nature of the gospel.
To head things off at the pass, yes, I think faith and emotion go together, and no, I don't think the gospel is terribly complicated or difficult to grasp.

Valid points there winterlens. Fortunately the concerts I have attend has altar calls with pastors and youth pastors there. So when they do accept christ. They have someone there to talk to. That is when the seed is planted. Most of the audience that are not born again may have only one shot. So might as well be the concert and seize the moment for Christ.

I believe that the wall between CCM and secular music is so high that there are very few non-believers nowadays that go to christian concerts. So then what's the use of an altar call at a concert?
If the title of Bob and John's album will indeed be Vertical Expressions, I will like that much better than Worship Till The Cops Come.
But I'm confused when it comes to the site that trodLAN posted in another thread: http://www.myspace.com/iiguyz
Are they still seriously gonna call themselves II Guyz From Petra?? I surely hope not...
