JAH RISING

Anyone but me notice that Petra went UP in the SoundScan charts this week?

Christian retail chart
Combined retail chart

Side note... this weekend we got a Christmas catalog from Christianbook.com. They had a whole page of CD covers titled "Top 20 Best Sellers." Guess which all-black CD was smack in the middle of the page? And it was the only CD that even approaches hard rock... there was a Jars of Clay CD, and the rest were 4Him and Zoegirl and other fluffy stuff.

One fluffy artist who did not appear on the page... I won't say her name but her initials are Amy Gra...

It's amazing and this is with very little radio airplay. MJ maybe you can get a hold of the person from Inpop who was giving us #'s for "Revival".
Based on where they are on the charts I would be guessing anywhere from 70k-100k units sold.

LOL, let me pick myself off the floor. 100,000 copies?? LOL.

There's a reason why inpop didn't say how many copies jah had sold in it's press release, and there's a reason the label hasn't said how many copies it's sold to date.

I doubt the album is even close to 20,000, and it's almost had it's run.

Oh, I see... strong criticism from someone who won't even pick a user name. That kind of post means a lot to each of us.

I don't know that Inpop or anyone else is interested in feeding us actual sales numbers. Do they feed us sales numbers for Superchic[k] or their other top sellers? I don't think so... so why would they feed us numbers for JAH? Oh, and and Josh found those Soundscan charts, not me.

I think the best we can easily do without getting an industry person on our side is to utilize indirect evidence. We can easily find out the sales rank on Amazon... 3,706 currently, not especially stellar but also nothing to sneeze at... and we can see from the push that places like Amazon and Christian Book Distributors are giving the CD that they think it's worth it to make sure people know it's out there because they think people will buy it. I personally think the CD is on a slow burn... I think it will be selling fairly well for a long time, longer than someone like Jump5's new CD for example, as more people find out about it and get turned on to it.

"Almost had it's run" my butt. Get a user name, find out the real number for us and give us documentation, quit scoffing like you're something special (heck, you're a lurker on a message board for a band you obviously have disdain for... how special is THAT??), and learn that "it's" means "it is."

What an AOL-jockey.

Someone obviously has a bug up their butt, MJ, I wouldn't worry about it a whole lot. :P

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

I think the correct phrasing would be, "someone obviously has a bug up it's butt," wouldn't it???

No bug up my butt, I just find some of these comments so funny. 100,000 copies sold? Does anybody really believe that? It's ranked 3000th on amazon, that must mean it's sold 100,000 copies!!!!

This album will never ever get close to selling 100,000 copies.

On the up side, I heard a big tour is in the works, they might be the first opening act on the superchick tour. It would be Petra, then another act, then superchick headlineing.

Guest,

If you plan on bringing accusations like that then get a username and stand up like a man. At last count "Revival" had sold 80k and Inpop was quoted as saying they were pleased with that. With all the good press and alot of older fans coming back into the fold (I personally know 6 people that bought JAH, but wouldn't consider buying anything Petra has done over the last 5 years). I think JAH will sell in excess of 100k maybe even more, because the tour has not even started yet. I was told by S. Huie that they do have many dates set up for spring/summer 2004, but they are still working on confirmation.

80,000? you guys are living in a daydream. that album was big time bomb.

As for jah. It's first week it probably sold between 3000 to 4000 copies, slash it by 60 percent the next week, to where it sits now, which is probably less then 1000. And it is just barely hanging on to the bottom of the sales chart.

Good to see it's going up, if only one notch. Better than going down.

Anyone know how many, say, Beyond Belief sold? That would give some better perspective.

Maybe I need to disable anonymous posting. I'm not sure there's any good reason to allow it. Now to figure out how (I didn't see it in admin tools).

hmm...bickering again huh?:):)..well it is a real gain to see petra on the best sellers list for almost 2 months straight...sooo much for the "outdated" petra...."when you think you know it all, could it be your thinking way too small?"

Petra's Selling

Who is Superchick? Never heard of 'em. I really don't care how many units Petra's sold besides I believe they've sold over 11 million units world wide. How many has Superchick sold???? Petra put an album out and I like it. Not their best but certainly gets play time with Limp Bizkit, Motley Crue, Ozzy Ozbourne, System of a Down, Korn, Slayer, etc....

Petra is the only "Christian" band I like to listen to. They kick some serious @%&. Just my 2 cents.

Well.....Petra is doing good.

Does anyone have a CCM Chart for this month? Just wondering what CCM has on their stuff so far.

With a spot on soundscan look at those numbers...37 42 41 that's three weeks on the Christian Retail.

And then 44 49 47 that's the same three weeks on the Combined Retail.

That looks, like there is a steady flow in sales...and from what some stores are saying, they are having to place orders at least 2 or 3 times a week. So if that is the case, I think that PETRA will reach the 100,000 mark, by or maybe even the middle of their tour next year. And of course the Tour will for sure Jump up the Sales, believe or not it does for every artist.

And on top of that, guess what? When Petra starts hitting these Cities, Those very same Radio Stations that didn't want to play their songs, will want to be represented at that Concert....hmmm. What does that say?

So maybe Petra's singles may start getting some air play, as soon as a tour is announced.

On the note of some of these Hide and seek, hit and run type posts...I'm all for everyone having their own opinion....but for you not to register and just make these kind of odd-ball comments, you are a not having your own opinion, you are attacking this community of Petra fans and you are not stating anything in good taste. I would hate to see how you are in person, you probibly would be afraid if someone really found out who you are.
