That's a good one. :D I don't have a problem with "Best Of" collections per se. It's the way they release these things after the band is no longer with them, just before a new album comes out that I have problem with.

Power of Praise

Post by Michael » Wed Oct 15, 2003 11:25 am

Check out the other Phantom Tollbooth review of Power of Praise... this reviewer was pretty scathing. The phrase he used to describe the CD is, "waste of time!"

I refuse....

Post by Petrafan4life79 » Wed Oct 15, 2003 4:03 pm

GRRR!!  I refuse to read anymore about this Power and Praise CD. I understand everyone has a right to their opinions, but for crying out loud, don't people realize this is a PRAISE AND WORSHIP CD????  If you read your Power and Praise CD sleeve, Bob clearly states they talked to youth pastors to see how they can help them. Youth pastors were having problems getting the youth to participate in the worship, so Petra put together a praise and worship CD to be used in the churches. It really bothers me that the 2 people gave Power and Praise less credit than it deserves. And that it might interfere with J&H sales? Um, if you're an avid Petra fan, you won't care how many albums there are...we want ALL the Petra albums. :D

Anyway, I'm done ranting now. As I said, I understand we all have a right to our opinions, but it really bugs me when people judge before finding out all the facts.

Power Of Praise

Post by Shell » Wed Oct 15, 2003 4:38 pm

I seriously doubt Petra had much say so about the release of the Power of Praise; I think the reviewer is mistaken about assuming the songs were the band's choice. It was kind of a harsh review.

I don't think what Bob says on the CD sleeve is anything recent. I think that's something from when Petra Praise: The Rock Cries Out came out; I do remember reading that they had talked to youth pastors about putting out a praise and worship album.

my question

Post by executioner » Thu Oct 16, 2003 10:41 am

My question would be does Petra have the right to say no or do they have to give consent for the record company to put that out? No they do not. all the other compliations have been released without Bob or John's consent.

It's pretty much the record company's call, and as with any big business, they're gonna do what they think will make them some bucks, without consulting anyone. They probably weren't legally obligated to get the guys' consent, especially since Petra wasn't with them any more. It's the way they're doing this just before a new CD comes out and after they're not with them any longer that gets me. It stinks.

John was pretty ticked off about Star Song.
