Time off for the band

Post by spottacus » Wed Dec 15, 2004 6:01 pm

Look at Petra's touring schedule. There's nothing there. Is this a hiatus for recording a new record? Does anyone know when the band will be in the studio?

If so, what would you like to see on the band's next album? I'm all for some flagrant showing off. I want guitar and drum solos. I want artsy fartsy riffs like when they play It Is Finished live. I want furious tempos and and I want the rhythm section to lay down a stone foundation for Bob and John to work off of.

After the way the last album turned out, my mind is set at ease for this next project. I'd like to hear Paul and Greg playing on it instead of the session aces they had last time. I have a feeling this next album may even best J&H. Who knows. One thing I'm not gonna worry about is if these guys can still rock. We all know they can, and more than likely will.

Bob has been quoted at the Shoutfest concerts as saying that a new album will be out in '05, and it will not stray too far from JAH. Paul in an interview on PRMW said that they have some songs written and the album will rock.

So I take it the keys will not be coming back for this album, and that the album will be heavy with guitar riffs. I know Bob has been listening to us complain about no solos on JAH, so maybe he will work some in on the new album.

no dates

Post by Michael » Thu Dec 16, 2004 12:08 pm

Just because there's no dates to see on the sites doesn't mean they're not playing... management has been notoriously bad about reporting upcoming dates. They've been playing some shows in India this past month that were pretty tough to find out about online. I assume the deal was (1) needed travel time to get over there and play the shows, plus (2) the Powers That Be didn't think we would care to hear about shows in India. <shrug>

My assumption was they were taking a much needed break and sometime in Feb. they would start working on the new album. Most bands take a hiatus through the Holidays and into Jan. If that would be the case than we would be looking at a late summer/early fall release, and I know Inpop was wanting something in the spring. I believe they will put in off until the fall, because albums do not release well in the summer time.

I was going to say something similar to what Michael said, but he beat me to it. :) It would make sense for them to want to be home for Christmas, most bands usually don't do a lot of touring over the holidays. But there is such a lack of information about concerts. I mean, isn't part of the idea of having concerts is so people will hear about and go to them? It's a shame they don't make better use of the Internet, it could be a good promotional tool for them. Oh well, it's their loss.

I have a feeling it was more that the deal wasn't finalized until very late, and they didn't want to publish any dates until everything was cemented.

Someone does need to update the official website. It still lists concerts from this year, including the one in Bogota in April that never happened! Sheesh!

Michael is right!

I get the feeling that information is not available due to the lack of orginization...not really the band's fault! :)

I am very thrilled about the new album...sounds like from what Michael and I have heard it is going to be great! :)

I agree that the lack of information isn't the bands fault, but they probably are aware of the lack of information. Think about it. You would have to be a complete idiot or ridiculously naive to be totally in the dark about what goes on with the people you work with, particularly if you've been working working with them for awhile. They're not dummies, and you will not last very long in the music biz if you're naive. The point is, they could probably find a way to make sure there's concert information if they really wanted to. For whatever reason it's not a high priority with them, which is up to them. But it's still a shame.

Oh well, as I've said, it's a jungle out there. I am looking forward to the new CD too. :)

rok-on

Post by seichu kaisho » Fri Dec 17, 2004 10:03 pm

I don't see why Lawry, Cates and Weaver couldn't ever join in for a few concerts, just like Petra's 70's lineup guys did. Perhaps they could even play on a future Petra album. - that would be awesome! I'm pretty sure they won't join Petras official band lineup ever again, but I don't see how they couldn't atleast make a short-term appearance.[/b]
