OK...can anyone riddle me this?

Why is the song "Parting Thought" found at the END of the FIRST side of Petra's self-titled recording instead of at the end of Side 2.

Does anyone else find this odd?

Yeah, I thought it was kinda odd considering the name....

Exactly...

If they should call it anything, it should be something like...Semi-Parting Thought or something along those lines.

But that's just ME!

"Petra" is a bit weird, because the order is totally different on the CD. I'm curious if anyone here has the vinyl, cassette, and CD versions available for comparison...

I have the cassette and the cd, and both have the same song order. I've seen the album on Ebay before. I'm pretty sure that "I'm Not Ashamed" would be the closer on the album as well, just by the way they end the song.

I am wondering if the band originally intended it to be set to be at the end and the manager or higher power overruled the band at the end.

Just speculating or thinking out loud.

I have the vinyl, and the sides are reversed from what you all have on your CDs and cassettes (which I have as well!) "Parting Thought" is indeed the last song on side 2 on the vinyl.

No clue why the song order is different between the formats, but you will find that the song order is also changed between formats on "Come And Join Us"...

This has become quite a mystery.

Somebody get me Angela Landsbury!

Well, I called her and it went a little something like this....

ME: "Angela?"

ANGELA LANSBURY: "That's Mrs. Lansbury to you--and how did you get this number?!"

ME: "Never mind that, I need a mystery solved."

ANGELA LANSBURY: "Like I told Entertainment Tonight, 'Once I turn 79, my mystery solving days are over.'"

ME: "Stop whining. I need to know who screwed up the tracklist on Petra's eponymous debut album."

ANGELA LANSBURY: "Jon, I've been wondering that for fifty years."

ME: "We all have. Any leads?"

ANGELA LANSBURY: "I don't know, but the A-Team started investigating Myrrh records for massive corruption...they might know something."

ME: "I'll call them. Thanks for your time, Angie."

ANGELA LANSBURY: "Don't go anywhere, I'm lonely I want to talk...."

ME: "Sorry...your....break....ing up..."

Dial tone.

So, I'm waiting for a call back from Mad Dog Murdock on what he knows...thats where we're at.

All joking aside...

my CD has a couple of the songs in reverse order. I can't think of them right off hand because I don't have it in front of me. I believe one of the reverse-order songs was Prodigal Son.
