Reactions to the letter
I certainly see a LOT of reasons why it would make sense to re-release it... what we can't see are some of the things that might be obstacles: availability of the masters of the audio/video, willingness of the owners of that material to allow its use for a new print, and a hundred other issues. Hopefully the ADVANTAGES outweight the DISADVANTAGES!
Hey, if we get a lot of reactions on this thread here on the Zone, I'll post a link from the letter page to here. Oh... and I noticed that we have 401 confirmed signatures as of this morning!

.............
I really think a Box set of DVD's is in order. I mean according to Word Distribution the only thing left of Video for new orders is Wake-Up Call Video Collection.......I mean how about that coming out on DVD too.
Not to take anything away from CITAS. I really think that CITAS should be the start of DVD re-issues. I also think sense there are Videos for Beet The System, Back To the Street, This Means War and On Fire. Then how about releasing PETRA Means Rock the Videos on DVD.
I mean the material that Petra has put out that alot of Petra fans still has not seen I think would be enough to generate interest within the company to release this stuff, there hasn't been any releases from the StarSong years sense "Rock Block" & "Early Years." What was that 95 & 96?
I think if anything else is to be re-issued or compiled for that fact it would be the Video to DVD projects, and start on new collectons for the Videos that didn't make it to a long form project.
Album re-issues, I would say finaly put "Washes Whiter Than" the complete album out on it's own CD and put "Never Say Die" to it's own CD. Then I would also urge the record companies, if there were any Live recordings of Petra that has never been released, get them out on the shelves. Because then you're talking about a major up-roar in sales.
I don't know if there were long-form videos for Back To the Street and This Means War. But based on what I know of so far.......here is my list of what should be on the StarSong and Word Records agenda.
-StarSong
1. Captured In Time and Space - DVD
2. On Fire Video Event - DVD
3. Petra Means Rock - The Videos / DVD (complete with Beat the System and all other music video singles that were released during those years at StarSong
4. Washes Whiter Than - CD re-issue
5. Never Say Die - CD re-issue
6. Captured In Time and Space - Double CD re-issue
-Word Records-
7. Beyond Belief - DVD
8. Back Stage Pass - DVD
9. Still Means War - DVD Collection cotaining all the singles from Beyond Belief, Unseen Power, Wake-Up Call and No Doubt.
And just for fun - inpop
10. Jekyll & Hyde LIVE tour DVD (now tell me that wouldn't that be cool).
Lord help me if I ever become head of one of these record companies.....PETRA will live on forever...even if I had to take a cut from my own pay.
Look at that list, and tell me there wouldn't be a money making oportunity for these record labels.

I think you're a little bit optimistic about the video material that exists. Just my comments on your list:
1. CITAS originally included the Beat the system Video, so if CITAS is released on DVD, I think Beat the system should be included where it originally was.
3. That leaves only one video for the compilation DVD you're thinking of, cause the only other song from the Star Song era that has a video is Whole world.
2. The On fire video event has been released by Word Music in 1989, so it could be Star Song doesn't even have the right to the video.
4. Okay, that would be terrific.
5. Nah, Never say die is still available together with the songs of WWT.
6. Okay, would be cool.
7. / 8. Absolutely!!
9. This would not have to include the video single from Beyond belief and Unseen power, since they are already on 7. / 8. So there are four videos left: Midnight oil, Just reach out, Enter in, Think twice. It would be cool to also include the video for Who do you listen to? although it's not exactly what you would call a video clip. Maybe they could include the John Schlitt solo videos Show me the way and Can't get away.
10. As long as the live footage is filmed in Europe and I can be there.

I have talked to Louie about this. He said that there is a story behind it not being released. CITAS will never see the light of day again. The footage used on the Inpop DVD was from one of the band's copies, not the master.
To come up with that package sounds simple, but it would be a logistical, legal and financial nightmare for all involved.
If it happens, I will buy you all a car.

CITAS
I've visited with several people via email on this issue, including Bob plus some other people who would not have... well, who would not have an emotional attachment to the whole situation. Bob Hartman reports that the master films are lost; he has no idea where they might be. The librarian at EMI, which now owns the Star Song back catalog, reports that the master videos were not transferred to them when the Star Song material came in. I've gotten the impression over time that maybe Louie thinks Bob has the film in his basement or something and won't let it out, but unless we want to call Bob a liar to his face, he does not have it. It's possible that someone threw it out when Petra switched labels, thinking it would never be marketable again. That seems ridiculous, but anyone who's been out in the business world longer than ten minutes knows that the ridiculous happens every single day. My hope is that somehow a production master that has been on the shelf at a video manufacturing company somewhere for twenty years may turn up. Outside of that, or someone miraculously having saved the films somewhere, I'd say the best bet for a DVD at the moment is Judboy here on the Zone. He seems to have a good quality transfer, at least as good as can be had from a VHS source, and he may have even gotten a Beta source from somewhere (I know Elo has one, but I don't know if he's borrowed it or gotten another one), and that would be better than VHS.

I never said what the story was that Louie had told me. That was a private conversation. I was told basically some of the same information, plus some speculation.
Having personally talked to other artists about re-releasing their albums, talking to the labels and inventory mis-managers about masters (the condition and the lack thereof), it is not hard to imaging that someone walked with the masters, or the studio where a master or rushes would be is out of business, or them being thrown away. There is gross mismanagement of assets. Of course, most people that work for labels are bone heads anyway, so it is no surprise.
I know someone with a direct copy of the master. But they aren't parting with it.
