John and Dino didn't get a "Wake-up Call"

Since John Schlitt went to petra, John and Dino entered too. They produced petra albums. But Wake-up call was not produced by them.
"it may be the cause that this album is the best to me ".
Why didnt they produced wake-up call????

If I remember correctly. Bob said that WUC was a matter of time and availability. They broke away from all of the usual suspects. Bob even commented that the mixing was handed over to someone with secular success, and it was a surprising big sound.

I liked that record. I like the music of the earlier Elepetra records, but never liked the sonics. I thought that they always sounded narrow. I liked the WUC air.

Midnight Oil has some little guitar jabs and things that remind me of the NSD and MPTY records.

I really liked how the drums sounded on WUC; They seemed to be more upfront and more free, then in the past. I felt though that WUC lacked the Hartman guitar sound of the past, it almost sounded like they were trying to be more adult contemp. for radio. It is also an album I listen to alot to get encouragment.

I'm listening to that CD right now...it does have better sound than the other albums...

Really, WUC was a very adult album. it sonds like a true rock album.
its songs are the best.

My only gripe about Wake-Up Call is that it has a lot of midtempo and slow songs. With that said, I really dig some of the songs. I like the way "Sleeping Giant" ends with the keyboard. I can always picture a globe spinning on that song (must be the album cover LOL).

There's also some very bluesy influences on that record. As for the drums, they sounded so different from the big, dark drum tones on the previous album (Unseen Power). Took some getting used to, but now I like the way they sound on WUC.

BTW: I'd love to hear them use the "Underneath the Blood" talk box again.

The drum quality on Wake-Up Call sure is different from that of all 6 albums from Back to the Street to Unseen Power. Definitely the heavy "boom" of the drums on those previous 6 albums is lovely and ear-pleasing, but I'm still glad they changed the sound for WUC, because the heavy-booming drum sound of '86 - '91 would not have fit on that album.

yeah I think wake up call should have had at least another song like midnight oil. only major dissapointment really.

I guess I'm the oddball in this thread. I've always thought Wake Up Call had an inferior sound compared to the Elefante CDs. Especially compared to No Doubt, which in my opinion, has a much better sound than Wake Up Call. No Doubt has an excellent quality to it.

Yes, I like NO DOUBT too. but WUC has a ROCKING SOUND to they that like REALLY ROCK!!!!!! the drums got a more acustic sound and John's voice is more ROCKER!!! NO DOUBT has a young sound. I like it, it's one of the best albums.

I think that going with Brown Bannister on that album was an excellent choice. In fact, I wish they'd done more albums with him. That album, in my opinion was easily the best they had done between Beyond Belief and Jeckyll and Hyde and actually I probably like it better than Jekyll and Hyde simply due to overall better songwriting. I love the heavyness of Jekyll and Hyde, but I don't feel it was Bobs best songwriting overall. Good basic ideas, but I wish he had worked them a little more and gave them more character. Jekyll and Hyde and Sacred Trust stand excellent as they are, but the rest probably could have undergone some improvement.

Everyone has their preference, but Wake Up Call really had to grow on me and that did not happen overnight. I did not especially like much on that CD the first few times I listened to it. I felt the production was not up to snuff when compared to any of the CDs from the Elefante era, which to me, were superior to Wake Up Call.

I don't know if you're actually including Beyond Belief in your rating of CDs up to Jekyll & Hyde, but to me without question, Beyond Belief was by far Petra's best CD of all time. On Fire! would be my second choice. To me, nothing is as good as the Elefante projects.
