Here's one news article from a Georgia TV station:

Here's another one that turned up a few days ago in response to Josh's article:

Here's one from a San Francisco TV station:

The same thing from a TV station in Knoxville, TN:

Apparently the Associated Press has picked up the story! Holy crud... this is more press than Petra has EVER gotten for ANYTHING.

AP Radio in Washington, DC, called me yesterday to confirm it and to get ahold of John.
I'm sure the two medias share their stories.

Our local Christian Radio station had the announcement by John via phone today. I guess that is as official as it gets!!

A couple more:
Cross Rhythms
CMCentral... quotes the official announcement from John's site, and reproduces Josh's write-up in full
And actually, here's a thread started by Josh on another message board:
http://faithcommunitynetwork.com/Petra_ ... 719/tm.htm Not really a "news" article, but it's interesting to see people's reactions to the news.

Yikes! I read some of those posts and I am really sad. Appartently the CCM crowd wants style over substance.

Yes...the majority of the posts on faithcommunitynetwork.com were disheartening.
I have to agree with executioner on this one...it seems that many people may have opted for style rather than substance as the years have progressed.
But, of course, I am a little biased when it comes to Petra.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion...EVEN IF IT IS WRONG!

style over substance

People have come to expect more, now that CCM has proved that yes, it actually CAN produce music that is truly comparable to its mainstream counterpart. The REALLY sad part is that Petra used to represent both substance
and style. The perception does not represent the reality... people think Petra is dated largely because they have not bothered to listen to any Petra since 1992 or so.

Notice at the end of the thread, some of the naysayers from earlier on were like, hey, now that I listen to this Jekyll & Hyde stuff on their Web site, they're pretty cool!

I don't think any of those posts had anything to say about the ministry side of Petra; They all talked about the way the music sounded and how radio did the right thing in not playing Petra. The only radio I listen to is sports talk. I can't remember the last time I listened to CCM radio. I have over 1000 CD's to take up my precious time. BTW did you know that radio listenership is down 22% from three years ago and has been in decline for a number of years, it is dying a very slow and hopefully painful death.

People are opting for satellite radio because it plays a very wide variety compared to regular radio's three hour cycle of drivel.
I can say from experience that it's very rare to hear the same song played on a satellite station more than once or twice a week. Not only that, but satellite radio plays A LOT of non-singles.

I have thought about getting satellite radio but my drive time for work is around thirty minutes and I use that for my quiet time with God.
