i don`t think those should stop. We can still get together for a John solo concert or even for Louie on his new band...or just organize something and get totherfor hang out and watch petra videos and stuff...what do you think?
Yeah

I think that's an excellent idea. If Star Trek fans can do it, why not Petra fans?

That is a very good idea. However, as several people have pointed out, it costs bucks, and I don't think anyone has a couple of grand or so laying around to put something like that together at this point.

i`m not saying NOW I mean eventually, I think in a future we should organize ourselves and make conventions on our own, after all, Petra is not the only thing we talk about
hey shell, by the way, one of my students is like your twin, I gave her class alone on monday and WOW it was like seeing you but in spanish

She's probably a few years younger than I am, but I take it she's short and has dark hair and fair skin...

When we all got together about 4 years ago, it cost us travel. We didn't put major bucks into it, we got together around a John Schlitt concert. I think that's all we really need.

Calicowriter & I are toying with the idea for next year...
I'm envisioning a summer's day, out in the park, Pethead bands/groups/entertainers all day, with John & Andband as the headliners.
Wouldn't that be a BLAST??!!!!
As Shell said - anyone have a few, cool thousand laying around? There are lots of expenses. SOMEONE has to hire the sound system, reserve the park, advertise, pay honorarium, hotel, air.... the list goes on.
BUT you know... when you pool resources, you can come up with all kinds of cash..... there are ways....

I've got my shades........when and where?
Sell tickets. That's how promoters do it. If you find a good location that many of us can get to within a 8 - 10 hour drive (I would drive that far to see John), maybe in a city that has a history of a good draw for a previous show, you should be able to sell enough tickets to pay for it.
The biggest expenses would be:
1- venue - if you want outdoors you might be able to get the space donated.
2- Sound System and Sound engineers - I don't know what John's rider says. He may require a certain system and set up. But if not if you do your homework you might be able to find someone who will do it for cost because they are a fan. (there are a lot of great soundguys with there own equipment over at christianmusicianforum.com)
3- John - Whatever his rider requires plus his band.
There would be other incidentals, but hosting and promoting a concert is not an impossible undertaking. i would love to see it happen, and would help if asked.

Yes, I know about all that. I've promoted lots of concerts.... and can stretch a buck like crazy. I'm not afraid to ask for freebies either! lol!
In this city, ticket fees never cover expenses. I've had John, Petra, Greg Volz - all of 'em, and ticket sales NEVER covered expenses. You always have to raise funds first.
I've always wanted to have a real outdoor show... NON-ticketed.... maybe pass the hat or have a donation bucket, but I want it to be free to whomever wants to come and hear.
The whole idea is in the back of my head and it won't go away.

Any of you are always welcome to come here to see GHF

That is like a trip through a Petra time warp, but they really still sound good together... and they do a handful of early Petra tunes!

I will be finished with school this week and catch up on my CD listening.

I might just know someone who would jump at the chance to do sound. He's from Iowa.....knows his stuff! He may not be Brian Houle, but he's good!!!!
Oh, and Sue....manager extraordinaire......you better be booking me for this event to do a show!! And Warren for food!!!!!
cool idea!

Hey Sue!
I think that the whole convention thing would be awesome if it was a feasible thing. I know that there are a lot of members of the Zone that are in active bands...I think it would be great if as many as could afford could be a part of something like that. I know that my band, Torn Veil, would definitely be interested in something like that. Nice thing is, I know that there is a great variety of styles represented amongst the members of the Zone so you could really appeal to a wide range of people...just my $.02!
If there is anything I could do to help, let me know and I will be more than willing to do it!
Peace,
Eric aka Masada

See... the idea just won't go away!
It's cool that people like you guys want to get involved... the more hands, the easier the work is.
I think we'd have to set it up for Summer 2006, not this year. I just have too much going on now, but by next year I should be more set.
I'd love to do it outside, but then there's always the threat of bad weather.
If we had a full slate of performers (which I'm sure we would end up with MORE than enough groups) and it rains - we'd have to move indoors, which would probably mean sets cut WAY short.
I guess what's needed right now is to ask God if He wants us to undertake this, and then provide the means and ways to do it.
