I've seen this same release on one or two Christian music news sites. Looks like it's from Inpop, so I don't know if this is the one Wayne was planning to do or not. I kind of doubt it, since Wayne wanted to wait until all plans were finalized before issuing anything.
It really doesn't say anything new, though it confirms they are still talking about doing some sort of final album.

That looks like the same one Cat just posted in the
Petra in the News thread. If this is from Inpop. then it definitely sounds like they're planning some kind of release of SOMETHING for this year!

CMSPIN often cuts and pastes news found elsewhere. I wouldn't make any firm judgements yet. We would have heard about it other ways, from closer sources first.

How closer can you get than Wes Campbell? He is the one who signs off on everything over at Inpop?

Okay, I got confirmation from kevin at cmspin. That is definitely a press release issued by Lizza Connor at Inpop Records. That's why it is showing up at multiple news sites.

"They" lifted two direct quotes that I got from John and are posted on the homepage of johnwschlitt.com... the quote from Wes Campbell sounds very familiar also, like something that was put out when they signed Petra and were working on Revival. Why would he mention the Newsboys in a Petra farewell release?
If this is their official release - why isn't it found anywhere on their site or on Petra's site?

Wayne told me through email that they would be putting that press release on the website today (Monday). Of course, I'll believe it when I see it.

For the record, CMSpin doesn't steal or lift news from other sites. We are on many many promo lists for press releases. We also take news from band and label sites, news they want to promote. I run a very ethical ship and if there is anything in question, i prohibite my staff from posting it.
The artical was indeed a press release from Inpop and I publicly thank Josh for sending the orginal article so early on. He has been a great help with Petra news in the past.
Thank you...
Kevin

I didn't say that you stole. Sorry for the implication. I know that news about our project has been on there and we did not submit it, and it was nearly word for word from other sites. No hard feelings. I liked the press and I know that Petra does as well.

I understand, I simply was making sure my name is clear. I do what I do not for money or anything else (believe me), its to promote the music that promotes God. So i want to make sure people realize I try hard to make sure cmspin.com is on the up and up.

OK... thanks for clearing that up, Kevin.
So it's INPOP who lifts quotes from other sites.

Now do you all see why Petra is leaving the ministry? This goes on everyday in CCM, and I really don't think God is smiling about it. This reminds so much when Jesus saw the merchants in the Temple; CCM's time is coming.
You better get your house in order before the shakin' begins.

Guys, they're not really leaving the ministry; they're just moving on to other things. And as I've pointed out, they chose to sign with Inpop and work with the people they've worked with. Whatever the case, they seem comfortable with their decision to retire. There are probably a number of factors leading to that, we could debate it and try and figure out whose fault it is until the Lord returns.

The bottom line is these guys especially Bob and John are just getting up there in age. Yes they can still play and sing but I just think there is a gap between them and todays youth. The music scene has changed so much since the 80's and 90's when Petra were at the top of the game. It's time for them to enjoy the fruits of their labor. All warrios need to rest.

I meant they are leaving the ministry of Petra behind, and also 90% of CCM is like what you see above, everybody out to get the almighty $$$$$. That is why I am very cautious about who I listen too from the CCM side of things.
