Petra's got a gig on a cruise ship! I just found this article at http://www.jesusfreakhideout.com

The music and fun are scheduled to set sail September 12th as Premier Christian Cruises' 'Music Boat 2005' takes to the high seas with a boat load of the biggest names in contemporary Christian music. With 2005 marking the inaugural year of Premier's 'Music Boat Cruise' series, excitment is building around this the latest voyage, set to leave dock from Miami for a September 12th-16th ship's itinerary that will include port stops in Key West and Cozumel, Mexico. Announcement has just been made that legendary Christian rock band Petra has been added to the ship's talent register, for the event billed as 'The Ultimate Christian Cruise Vacation.' The cruise will mark one of Petra's final appearances since the recent announcement of their retirement after 33 years in Christian music, four Grammys, 10 Dove Awards, and sales of more than 7 million records as a 'pioneer' rock band in the genre. In making the announcement, Premier's Roy Morgan noted: "Petra's addition to 'Music Boat 2005' is a major acquisition to a line-up that is undoubtedly one of the strongest to date for the Premier Group's cruise concert event series." In addition to Petra and the music of more than a dozen top artists in contemporary Christian music, the Premier getaway cruise will feature a full schedule of non-stop, family-oriented fun in the sun, fellowship, and worship for five days aboard Carnival's luxury fleet ship, 'ms. Fascination.' For more information, and all upcoming schedulings of Premier Christian Cruise events, resource online at: http://www.premierchristiancruises.com

Seems to me that if Christians would band together in large masses, go on regular cruises, and live their faith, not preach up a storm but live their faith, maybe a few less people would think badly of Christians. Maybe a few would get saved as well. Just a thought.

It seems that many people will talk about how they hear that Christians are supposed to out and about serving and ministering to the world, yet at every turn they witness Christians congregating together and separating themselves from the world. The few they do run into yelling at the top of their lungs about burning in hell.
I think one big reason our Gov't is now spending billions in areas that the founders never intended for the gov't to be involved in is that the church at large in America failed. The Gov't is doing the job of the church in many ways, and not doing it right. The Biblical model is to meet someone's need and help them rise above their situation. The wordly model has become meet someone's need and send them away, and repeat the process each and every time they come back. It's become easier for people to stay where they are, and unfortunately that model has also become a way to buy votes.

Wow, Sorry for the rant.
Don't know I got from Christian cruises to that.

Oh Gman, don't get me started brother. Even though I am right in there with you. Could it be that, even though Jesus said to be "in the world and not of the world", modern Christians are OF the world but not IN the world?

I believe the mega church model is destined to fail. We are spending billions in our country on churches with their own bowling alleys, coffee shops, auditoriums built with entertainment in mind and not worship, etc. Meanwhile, missions giving and sending has dropped by about 50% in the past 20 to 30 years. Pastors are manipulating their people into being a part of "official" church programs that require them to be inside the church building nearly every night of the week.

We are telling the world to come and see how much fun Christians can have at their church and, by the way, we only mention Jesus a few times. See how cool it is to be a Christian? Come to our second rate circus. Come to our second rate Tonight Show. Come and see our Brittany Spears look alike. She wears clothes that actually touch, and sings "Forgive me Jesus one more time" instead of "Hit me baby one more time". Now it's good music, right? See, being a Christian isn't that much different than what you do. It's really easy and inoffensive.

Yet Jesus said things like "If any man wishes to be my disciple he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me." And then there's my favorite seeker sensitive message, "You will eat my flesh and drink my blood. For my flesh is food indeed and my blood is drink indeed." Then, when the crowd started to leave, he DIDN'T chase after them and try to explain. He knew that if they could be scared off that easy, they weren't His. Compare that with all the pragmatic ways the church tries to make Christianity exciting to those who have no spiritual life in them but are only looking for a little temporal satisfacting and peace.

And as far as the Government thing, the bible gives the state authority over one issue and that is the sword. The sword is the means of judging those who kill and/or damage an individual or his property. That's it. Christians are foolish to stand back and let the government play provider for the people when God has ordained that this should happen to His glory through His people.

And then there is education. The bible is loaded with express commands to fathers to teach and train their children. The main emphasis of education in the bible is to raise a godly seed unto the Lord. How is it that we try to build up our children in the Lord only to let the government have a wack at them for more time than we get them? To turn education over to a pagan governmental system is a tragedy. We say our children are too young and immature to handle adult church and send them off to see some fluffy puppet show, yet assume they are mature enough to be "missionaries" in the public school system. Duh!

Would we try to reform a whore house or would we just shut it down? In the same way, why are we trying to reform an educational system that was a corrupt and unbiblical idea from the beginning? For those of you who love history, see for yourself how public education was started in this country. It's main purpose was to allow the Boston elitest Unitarian Universalists to take Catholic immigrant children and retrain them in their satanic philosophies.

There Gman. How's THAT for ranting.
