Petra and covers...

Post by Jonathan » Thu Jun 30, 2005 12:39 pm

Has Petra ever covered another band's song onstage? You know, not just the praise stuff they didn't write but then recorded. I'm talking about like and actual cover of something else. I can't remember Petra ever doing anything onstage they didn't already record.

Also, have you seen a band cover a Petra song?

My band covered Judas Kiss, for example.

Well, there's a whole album of Petra covers. It's called Never Say Dinosaur.

Outside of that, the only cover I can think of offhand is Blood n' Fire's (Mat Gauthier's old band) cover of "Judas Kiss." Also, not exactly a cover, but "The Longing" is on Joel Hanson's first solo album Captured.

I remember hearing a country guy do More Power to Ya. Man was it awful. He butchered it so badly that I actually sat there for a few minutes going, 'I know this song. What song is this?'

As for recorded covers, I think Die Happy covered All Over Me (at the speed I always thought it should have been played at).

One Bad Pig did Judas' Kiss back in the day too-I remember my friend and I thinking that the guitar solo was the only part they did really well-and I heard years later that Bob played it.

Of course there are all the versions of God Gave Rock and Roll to You as well.

do you know the band?

Def Leppard guest-performed on the Regis and Kelly show yesterday, but to my surprise, they played a song by another band. I recognized the song because I've heard it on classic rock radio, but I don't know the band who originally did this tune. It's like a 70's southern rock song and has lyrics like "nothing to lose, nothing to do"(?) in the chorus.

I was talking about live onstage...but yeah.

Charl's talking about Tim McGraw, I forgot about that one.

Seichu, I saw that bit on Regis and Kelly (Please, nobody lash us with a wet noodle for catching that show). They played "No Matter What" by Badfinger.

If you visit www.melodicrock.com you will see that cover records are very big right now. Styx and many others are doing it as well.

Def Leppard has a whole album coming out in Sept. of cover tunes. One of the songs is on their new greatest hits double CD.
