Heads up: Some downtime coming

Hi,

My service provider is making me migrate everything on this virtual server to another box. Has to be done by August 31 or everything goes black.

It will have a new IP address so there will be some DNS propagation issues. And I have to work out the details of the move, not only the website and database (fairly easy I hope) but all the email accounts hosted here as well.

This is all complicated by the fact that I'm headed to the States tomorrow for two weeks due to an unforseen incident. So preparing for that I wasn't able to get everything done this weekend, and didn't really want to do it just before being in a plane all day.

To complicate it more, my dad only has a Windows computer on a dialup modem, so I'll have to do everything working with that. Ugh.

I suppose it will be down anywhere from 12 to 36 hours. I'm not sure precisely which day it will happen yet, maybe Thursday/Friday. But so you know...

Rats. That was NOT the downtime I was talking about! Looks like the system was rebooted just after I left, and the DB didn't come back up. I didn't discover it till now... wasn't on the Net for the last two days!

D'OH!!!

Micah, I seriously sympathize. What a pain, to have the sites you work so hard on at the mercy of someone else. You can't even press the power button without help!

I'm working on migrating the Guide and my other two sites to a new host... I've been back and forth with tech support all week, trying to figure out how to reocnfigure my .htaccess to make things work on their machines. SHEESH!! (Fortunately, I'm not actually DOWN... I'm still live, but I'm still trying to migrate things to the other system.)

Snicker. Well, I start school next week so that will keep me busy. Believe it or not, the Petra Zone isn't my whole life, but it is an important part of it. And working at home gives me time for the Internet that I wouldn't have otherwise. :)

I've actually had to resort to doing more WORK at work. Imagine that?

Whee, maybe that did it!

This should be live on the new server.

Micah... it looks like your JesusIsLife.net board isn't connecting to Postgres now. :(
