3 Opening Acts for Farewell Tour?

Post by mike&trudy » Wed Aug 31, 2005 6:27 am

I just saw on the Bring Petra to Youngstown website that a 3rd opening
act has been added to the Farewell Tour. How much set time is Petra
going to have left after all of these opening acts?

This is their famous manager doing this. I am sick to my stomach about this. This is suppose to be a farewell tour. Most artists in recent memory that are doing these so called farewell tours were at least palying 2 hours maybe more.

We do not know exactly who is to blame. The mindset (I would think, and so do some promotors that I have talked to) should be, "Hey, let's bring in bands that people HAVE heard of, that people WILL pay money to see, so that MORE will come. Instead, they have loaded up with bands that are likely to draw a completely different age group.

I don't get it either.

Maybe somebody in the band is related, owes a favor, or is planting seed. Who knows?

Actually, it looks like the opening acts vary by city. Sarah Brendel and Farewell June look to be the "official" opening acts, but some promoters are adding more. I don't know if they think it will bring in more crowds (especially young people) or what. Personally, I don't want ot have to sit through all of these acts, but where there is general admission seating, if you want a good seat, you'll have to get there hours early and deal with it.

I'm sure some of the opening acts may be quite good and uplifting, but I'm betting most will not be my cup of tea.

I just checked the link to the site for the 3rd act, Bread of Stone.
Their home page states they are touring on Petra's Farewell Tour from
Sept. 23 to Nov. 19, so it would appear that all North American stops
on the tour will have to endure 3 opening acts.

Less is more.

OK, well, that "officially" stinks! :x

For the Springfield, Mo. concert the time breakdown will be as follows:

Bread of Stone 15 minutes
Sarah Brendel 15-20 min
Farewell June 30 min
Petra 90 min.

I would have liked to see Petra 180 minutes! Oh well. 90 minutes is certainly better than nothing!

In london, ontario the opening acts are Farewell June and Black Talon (some band from Ontario).
I am reminded of the time i saw whitecross in london and the opening act was some middleaged dude that sang the blues with an acoustic. What's with that??
