Finally worn out

I've been prepping myself listening to Petra songs ever since I heard about the concert in Franklin. Well, I've had to break out a couple of very, very used Petra tapes for songs that I never got on CD. My 'Never Say Die' tape has finally given up for good  . I've repaired it before, but now, sadly, it has given up. Most of the writing has disappeared too.

This is a sad time for the tape world for now I must get the CD.

Anyone else tapes died or barely hanging on? Most of mine are quite worn.

My "More Power To Ya" tape bit the dust about 15 years ago. Actually, it would still play but had a bunch of spots that would drop out. A bunch! At the time (15 years ago) it was 8 years old and very well played. I replaced it with another tape at the time. I think my "Beat The System" was doing the same, but that was around the time I converted everything to CDs anyhow.

Praise the Lord for digital technology! No more tapes going bad or getting eaten!

My first tape of Beyond Belief got so worn out that it literally fell apart completely. I was devastated! My mom surprised me and went out and bought me another tape. That was in '92, I think. Shortly after that I bought the cd. To this day, I actually I still listen to the tape everyday driving to work, since my car doesn't have a cd player. :D

I switched to cd a long time ago, too.

Although the bad thing about Never Say Die is that it comes on one cd with Washes Whiter Than...and they exclude one song...I forget which one.

2 songs

Two songs, actually. I think it's "Magic Words" and "Couldn't Find Love Without You" from Washes Whiter Than

any chance those 2 songs appear on other CDs, like compilations or something of that sort?
or are they only available on LPs?

They are only available on cassette and on LP. One of the only frustrations of iTunes is that these songs are still not available there.

My copy of Washes Whiter Than no longer has bands, the beginning of I'm Thankful, or a complete shell (I have taped it together numerous times). Yahweh Love sounds like it's being played on 'jackhammer' setting. I'm totally with ya on the angst over being unable to purchase a CD copy of it or Never Say Die (especially annoying to me is that the cover of Washes was the best one, and it is not used!!)

My copies of More Power to Ya and Wake Up Call both had busted shells and were replaced by the CD equivalents. My copy of Petra simply disappeared one day and was also replaced-fortunately when it was dirt cheap.

The one that annoyed me the most was Captured in Time and Space. My brothers found it in the two dollar bin at tramps when it was not in print (I still consider it the best christmas present ever)-my useless walkman ate it a few years later-right on The Great I Am!
I was NOT impressed when I saw that the CD re-issue didn't include it and haven't even bothered buying that. I have the tape stuck together with scotch tape and when it gets to the broken section, I have to take it out, turn it past the tape, put it back in, and resume playing.

However, my Beyond Belief tape has been particularly amazing. 15 years of VERY hard use (I don't believe in treating my possessions with kid gloves), getting kicked around, never in the case-it still plays fine. This is the power of tapes!! A CD gets one little scratch and it's buggered. You can tape a busted cassette together, rig a string or some glue, and it just keeps going.

It's in there, if I remember correctly... If you turn the card over inside the CD case you can see that cover.

It's not a re-issue... all of the CDs have been like that. And I understand the album version is expanded a little more than even that... each version is slightly different. It's a real annoying PAIN!

I have a professional quality tape deck that I used to use when recording my own songs. I ran that into my computer and made pretty darn quality copies of those two songs. I still have the .wav files, but I mainly listen to MP3s nowadays anyhow.

I'm no music pirate or anything, but if some of you want those two songs, I'd have no problem offering the MP3s for download on my website. Believe me - if anyone knows the frustration of trying to get music that just can't be bought anywhere (at least in digital format like on a CD), it's me!

SURE it is... turn the card over, and from now on it's the normal cover on your copy!

I still have all my cassette versions, and the two mysteriously disappearing songs from the CD still play on my cassettes.

Let's hear it for 8-Track too, while we're at it!

I have it all on CD now. My tapes are all put in a special place and not to be touched for any reason. My CD colloction is now so large that I have 7 stands of CD's put in my home office in the closet. I believe each stand hols 250 CD's.
