St. Jo Review

I just got home.

I did not keep track of the set list. I was having too much fun absorbing it all down front. I could see nasal hair of John and Bob.

Let me say that Caring First Church (AOG) has a great youth facility. When I first saw it from the outside, my wife and I both thought "gymn sound" was coming. They obviously spent some cash and had the acoustics tamed. It was a very usable, good sounding room.

The people there were very nice. It appeared to be mostly church members. There were probably just as many youth as adults. There were quite a few of us old farts down front, singing the words to the oldies but goodies. The kids were digging it. The mouths were opened and jaws dropped on more than half of the rockin toons.

Here is my take on Petra. They really have fun. They are not as uptight as what I had witnessed before. There was some horsing around, which was great to see. Bob and Paul making the Popeye grin at each other, etc. It was fun to watch. John took some high notes that I haven't heard him belt in a while.

Mix wise, I thought that the young engineer needs to learn how to program multitap delays in place of excessive reverb. The system was on the verge of feedback, in the sibilance region (4kHz to 8kHz). There was not enough guitar in the mix for me. Vocals were great. Bass was pretty good. I wanted more...uh...beef.

I didn't get there early enough to talk to John as scheduled. I did meet Josh and his family in person. That was nice to put a body with a voice and email/post/etc. I got in to see John and the guys. Wayne came in shortly after. He made a joke about having to be a jerk, and then ruched the guys to the signing table.

Atleast I got some pics and CD jackets signed before heading out.

I handed out some PDC CD's to some guys interested in Louie. Many people that I talked to didn't know about Viktor or PDC. They do now.

Bob is checking on a splitter for me. If they can get one, I will be hauling the Digidesign crap down to Enid to record the GHF/Bob portion of the show. I hope to hang out more then, and hope to see more fans down there. It is truely amazing to have a common thread with so many people. It is easy to forget about the Christian thread so many times. How great that a band can help bring people together and realize what corporate worship and enjoyment can do for a crowd of strangers.

I took some pics with the crappy disposable. They are the same pics everyone else takes. Pics of the band doing their thing. Seen a couple you've seen them all. So, I won't waste the bandwidth.

ROFL!

Just so nobody thinks I'm being mean... In this interview Brent said he liked PRMW better than GTP. He knew that was what I was talking about, but I want to make sure EVERYBODY does. hehe

For the record... I think Josh has a terrific site. I don't blame people for liking it! And he's done a great job of scooping some Petra stories in the past year or two. He keeps me on my toes, trying to think of ways to expand my own site so I won't feel like the grandpa sitting on the porch while the kids go by in their shiny new sports cars! Friendly competition means that EVERYBODY'S site gets better.

PRMW is excellent... in fact, I told him so to his face in Franklin, but it's nice to tell it in public too. :)
