sorry, but this is just stupid.
The only reason they do that, is to press out the last money of the name PETRA.

But that's business! :?

I'm keeping an open mind for the packaging.

Kind of weird. Even though they are both Praise Albums, its like packaging On Fire with God Fixation.

A head scratcher, since praise music has come so far, and yet, much of it is so inane.

I was kind of expecting this:
When Revival was released 20-November-2001, Word followed with Still Means War 19-November-2002.
When Jekyll And Hyde was released 19-August-2003, Word beat them to it with The Power Of Praise 22-July-2003.
And now when Farewell CD was released 22-November-2005 and Farewell DVD will be released Spring 2006, Word will release between the CD and DVD The Praise Collection 28-February-2006.

It's the same thing as with Star Song Records. It's still a bit different though, cause this is a re-release of two albums. Recently I've seen a doubledisc release of Sonicflood and Sonicpraise, also a doubledisc release of two Keith Green albums. Perhaps this is a nice way to bring Petra Praise albums under the people's eyes again. I'm not completely negative on this one. And the packaging looks very nice.

Perhaps they might one day even decide to release some older videos on DVD and I would nothing do but applaud! Word has the copyrights of Petra's videos On Fire Video Event, Beyond Belief Video Album, Backstage Pass, Wake-up Call Video Collection and the two videos for No Doubt (Enter In, Think Twice). I'm still hoping they might release these on DVD one day.

What's the big deal? Petra signed away the rights when they signed their contract. It comes with the territory. Word wouldn't be doing it if there were not a market for it. People are still buying Petra, so that is a good thing isn't it? Maybe some new convert will buy it. Maybe just existing fanbase.

Any successful band with a back catalog is going to have this happen. It is called a green tree. Green tree means that money grows the tree because of whose tree it is. Journey, Def Lepard, Led Zep, etc, etc have all been recomp'd, remastered, repackaged multiple times.

The record labels wait an appropriate amount of time, for special events, anniversaries, etc. to capitalize. In some cases it can put more songs back on the shelf in a single package. It is good for people that are older now, have lost/damaged discs, and cannot find them easily.

The good thing is that Word has HUGE retail pull, so it will have a good presence in the stores, regardless of the Petra name being on it. One thing that I noticed as I traveled across the country since J&H came out, was that it did not have the presence in the major stores that the older albums still have.

I think maybe it has alot to do with Word taking advantage of the situation and coup some money off of it. Petra will NOT receive a dime for this. This is a shame, but that is the way this business works. Another way to look at it is someone goes into the store and has enough to buy only one CD and is set on getting Petra there will be a chance that they would pick up the Praise collection over Farewell especially since Word will make sure their presence is felt in the store. Petra would not make any money off of the Praise Collection but will off of Farewell.

We really don't know that Petra will not get a dime from this. We do not know first hand what their contract is/was.

They should still get royalties, unless they signed that away. I wouldn't be surprised if they still get a few cents, because EMI owns the other part of the Petra back catalog now, and they pay royalties on all of the rereleased stuff.

I wonder if the songs have been digitally re-enhanced or if its just the same mix striped together ...

The "Petra" logo is the current Petra logo. I wonder if they are allowed to use that without permission. If they can't, then someone in the Inpop or Petra staff is probably getting something. Plus, I just don't think they wouldn't get any royalties, but stranger things have happened.

They have done this every time Petra's put out a new CD, and it actually isn't illegal. I find it interesting that they would wait until they put out a new CD to do this though. There have been some good "Best Of" collections; the War and Remembrance collection is a good one, and Petraphonics is pretty good.

You always have the option of not buying it.
