Fav petra songs poll #1

Well with the recent closing of Petra's music ministry I thought it'd be kind of cool to start a series of polls on favorite songs. Starting with their first album and working to the last. I figured I'd do an album each week.
So for those interested, get out your petra CD's and start listening.
I'm gonna start off with what is probably the most obscure one. Petra's first album. I have a pretty good idea of which one I think is gonna win on this album. Happy polling!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
ok here are the results as of 01/05/06 sorted on voting order.
Lucas McGraw [8]
Walkin' In The Light [5]
Wake Up [4]
Backslidin' Blues [3]
Get Back To The Bible [2]
Gonna Fly Away [1]
I'm Not Ashamed [1]
Parting Thought [1]
Mountains And Valleys [0]
Storm Comin' [0]
That puts Lucas McGraw as the winner with "Walkin' In The Light" 2nd.

Walkin' In The Light is one of my favourite Petra songs of all time, so it certainly wins for this album. It rocks!

In my opinion, Wake Up is the best.

For being the oldest album, it really is a fun and cool album to listen to it. When I first heard it and Come and Join Us, it was hard listening to Bob's singing voice. But, I still enjoy cranking up those albums. I voted for Lukas McGraw.

I hear the music from the first couple albums rather frequently, and I always enjoy it.
Of course, I might be just a little bit biased...

That's become my favorite from
PETRA. What did you thing of Grammatrain's version of
Wake Up on
Never Say Dinosaur? I thought it was good.

I heard the Grammatrain version first, and I have always been amazed by how tight their rhythms are. I tend to favor the more intense version by Grammatrain.

Didn't even have to think about that one
Gonna Fly Awaaaayyy....
But I have a feeling it's not one of the more beloved ones.

I loved it. Got a funny little note about that: None of GHF (3 original Petra members) had heard the Grammatrain version until I pulled out my "Never Say Dinosaur" tape one day when John and I were digging through my music collection... They had no clue someone had covered their song!
Oh, my vote went to "Walkin' In The Light". I'll have a harder time voting on the second album, as I have 2 faves there...

Just checking in on the poll. Things seem to be going well. Cool.
It's fun to see what other people consider to be their favorite songs by a particular group compared to mine.
I'll tally it up on thurs (at midnight or later) and create one for their 2nd album.
I agree though. The hardest adjustment is getting used to hearing Bob's voice. Almost makes it seem foreign without greg on there. Kinda like hearing randy thomas voice on an allies or sweet comfort band album.

After reading the previous replies, I am under the impression that some of you might not know that Bob did NOT do all the vocals on "Petra" or the ones Greg Volz didn't do on "Come and Join Us"...
Greg Hough also shared the lead vocal duties in Petra's early days.
This was discussed a few months ago here on the Zone, and a list of who sings lead on what songs from the first 2 albums is part way down under the following topic:
http://thepetrazone.net/viewtopic.php?t=1186&start=0
Greg Hough still sings lead vocals on the songs from these 2 Petra albums when GHF performs them live...

PS I love this poll idea

I always assumed that in the early days, whoever wrote the song sang it.

Yes, I knew that Bob didn't sing all the vocals on the first two albums, but it's pretty clear which ones he does. He's got kind of a nasalized voice, that comes through in his vocals and when he speaks in concert.
The only album (and this has been discussed before too) that is hard to know who's singing is on the Washes Whiter Than album. Greg's voice and Rob Frazier's sound almost alike.

Yeah I kinda knew that not ALL of the songs were sung by hartman but since my CD of this album contains no info except who wrote it.
Unfortunately I only have "Come and Join Us" on tape. I really need to get around to getting the CD cause I kinda like it.

ok voting is done and the poll for the next album "Come and Join Us" will be up soon. Thank you loyal petheads for voting.
For anyone late to the game feel free to vote if your up to it. We still have plenty of albums to go.
Whoops seem the poll is autoclosed (forgot about that)... If there are any late comers feel free to post your vote and maybe I can tally it up later.
