Fav petra songs poll #3 (Washes Whiter Than)

Well with the recent closing of Petra's music ministry I thought it'd be kind of cool to start a series of polls on favorite songs. Starting with their first album and working to the last. I figured I'd do an album each week.

So for those interested, get out your petra CD's and start listening.

Voting for last weeks album "Come and Join Us" has completed. For you late comers, if your interested feel free to jump in. Results from the previous poll.

God Gave Rock and Roll To You [9]
Without You I Would Surely Die [9]
Come And Join Us [5]
Woman Don't You Know? [3]
Where Can I Go [1]
God Gave Rock and Roll To You (reprise) [1]
Ask Him In [0]
Sally [0]
Holy Ghost Power [0]

That makes a tie between "God Gave Rock and Roll To You" and "Without You I Would Surely Die"!! With "Come And Join Us" a distant 2nd.

I came real close to voting for "Where Can I Go". For some reason that song has been stuck in my head latey.

Next is Petra's 2nd album "Washes Whiter Than" where Rob Frazier joins in on the mixed leads. (Yeah I checked this time!) This also marks a first for Petra by releasing "Why Should The Father Bother" which actually made it on christian radio!

If anything this shows one thing that Petra figured out (and I think somewhere along the lines forgot) that radio play is important for getting peoples attention. Even if it is a sappy pop song. ;)

Oddly enough my fav song on this album was written by Rob Frazier himself. While we are talking about him. I thought I'd ask. After the petra album polls complete I was thinking of doing one for solo albums by Greg X Volz as well as Rob Frazier.

But...... I got the impression there are not very many Rob Frazier fans among petheads. So what do you guys think? :?: :?:

Feel free to mention any other interesting trivia.

I voted for Couldn't find Love Without You. I haven't heard it "forever" because it was left off the CD that combines WWT and NSD :(
I've also always liked Why Should The Father Bother?; Yaweh Love and Mary's Song. So really I have four favorites--but since I could only vote for one......

Yahweh Love for me. I always loved the ethereal 'heaven coming down' quality of the intro.

The tape I have of this album was played hard, and is completely wratched. I've never known why I liked such a soft album, as my default is usually loud and raucous(hot jazz anyone?). Go figure.

For some reason, I think this is my least favorite Petra album, although I still listen to it sometimes. Yahweh Love was the one I voted for. I really like the first 2 albums, and I guess this one just doesn't rock as much for me.

I like the more rocky stuff as well. But I choose "Why should the Father Bother". Great Lyrics, great melody!

I must admit that I was a bit shocked to see Yahweh Love cleaning up here. I guess it never resonated with me.

My vote goes to Morning Star.

Wow... People here are seriously trippin'

;)

Well that is the whole fun of the poll anyways. Cause my tastes aint the same as everyone else and it is interesting to see how things pan out.

If anything it is a testimony to the "range" of petra's music.

I still have not heard any comments from anyone concerning a Rob Frazier fav song/album poll later on.

Maybe I should do a poll on that.

I mentioned Mary's Song as a favorite song. Does that count since he wrote it? He's got a nice voice. I don't know enough about Rob to make any serious comment other than what I just said. :)

Washes Whiter Than is one of only THREE Petra albums which does not have a song that I really absolutely enjoy (the other two being the original release from 1974 and Double Take).
That being said, Morning Star is probably my favorite among a group of songs that wind up somewhere in my "rarely or occasionally played" list.

Boo to "Yahweh Love" song

I voted for "I'm Thankful." It kinda reminds me of Styx. "Magic Mirror" is pretty good too.

Yahweh Love - oh mercy, that song's so bad!! 2 Thumbs DOWN.

Well looks like only "Why Should The Father Bother" and "Taste and See" are the only ones that have a chance of beating out "Yahweh Love", or at least tying it. Givin the number of people who have been voting over the last two polls...

;)

Now the question is are people getting "Taste and See" mixed up with the versions by snoozeboys or audio adrainaline. Or even "Yahweh Love" from "Never Say Dinosaur" by Sarah Jahn.

Three interesting things about this album that I found out about when browsing thru my "War and Remembrance" song book.

1. Greg X. Volz came on this album to play the drums cause the drummer quit.
2. "Killing The Old Man" was actually recorded for this album but was literally axed and saved for another album.
3. Yahwey Love was a HUGE underground hit.

Number 3 almost sounds like what is happening in this poll.

I also got a chance to hear the two tracks that are missing from the CD double album (finally). They are actually pretty good and I like one of them alot. Maybe it will get a slot on my petra-old playlist. :D

I, respectfully, disagree with you about Yaweh Love. That's always been one of my favorites. But, to each his/her own. :)

Actually that was for Come and Join Us.
