Alright everybody thanks for voting on the previous poll. Moving on...

With the recent closing of Petra's music ministry I thought it'd be kind of cool to start a series of polls on favorite songs. Starting with their first album and working to the last. I figured I'd do an album each week.

So for those interested, get out your petra CD's and start listening.

Voting for last weeks album "Washes Whiter Than" with it's more "pop"ish sound has completed. For you late comers, if your interested feel free to jump in. Results from the previous poll.

Yahweh Love [7]
Why Should The Father Bother? [6]
Taste And See [4]
Morning Star [3]
(Couldn't Find Love) Without You [3]
I'm Thankful [2]
Magic Mirror [2]
Mary's Song [1]
Magic Words [0]
Deep Love [0]

And the winner is!! Drum roll please? The underground hit "Yahweh Love" with 7 votes and a very close 2nd with "Why Should The Father Bother?" which snuck up in the ranks but did not quite make it!

The results of this one were spread out a little more. So lets move onto the next one shall we? "Never Say Die" this album started alot of what I remember about petra.

1) Cool guitar cover
2) John Slick comes onboard for keyboards
3) Mark Kelly joins on bass
4) Greg does all the vocals (I think) ;)
5) "Praise Ye The Lord" and "Without Him We Can Do Nothing" are part of my all time favorite Petra praise melody from CITAS. :D

Still no louie weaver though.

So here we go!

Even though I voted for Praise Ye The Lord I don't really have just one favorite from Never Say Die. Songs like Chameleon, Angel of Light and For Annie "do it" for me, also.

I really wanted to vote for Chameleon, because I love that song, but I had to go with Praise Ye The Lord. That song is just so great to turn up loud. There's just so much energy and spirit in it. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

That being said, Side 1 of Never Say Die ranks among the best album sides of any Petra recording. All five songs are definite 'hits'.

Louie was actually in the band at the time but was just a drummer for the touring portion of NSD, but we all know that the producer didn't like Louie in the studio.

I voted for Chameleon. That song ruh-hocks, mannnn. (and womannnn)

Other second-favorites for me would be The Coloring Song, Angel of Light, and For Annie. However I Can be friends with You is a track I sometimes skip. The song has a cool "funk" feel, but needed a key change at the end to keep it from getting so redundant (with all the chorus repeats)

It's hard choose only 1 song from NSD. I vote for 'Killing my old man' but 'For Annie', 'Angel of Ligth', 'Praise Ye The Lord' and 'Never say Die' (the song) figth inside of my mind.
That being said, Side 1 of Never Say Die ranks among the best album sides of any Petra recording. All five songs are definite 'hits'.
Totally Agree!

I agree with most of the comments on here so far. It was hard to pick just one favorite. Praise Ye The Lord is a very annointed song, and a great one to crank on your stereo.

Chameleon here. I always liked the harmony on the chorus, and was surprised that it never got played much (I didn't hear it until I bought the album).

And yeah side one of this album wa stellar.

Yeah... "Angel Of Light" which is currently placing first is the kinda song that can grow on ya. I used to not like it. But I've always like Chameleon so it got my vote.

Let's see here...I like Chameleon, Angel of Light, and For Annie - and all are very well deserving of my vote...but this one has to go to "Angel of Light" by a hair...on this album, I always liked it best.

Looks like "Angel Of Light" is making a killing here. :D

I Like "Praise Ye The Lord" but I think the vocals coulda been alot better. Especially after hearing the live version. Plus compared to the other songs the vocals seem just a little weak. Like maybe they threw it together real quick and didn't have time to fix em up a little bit.

Yep, "Angel of light" is sure gettin' all the rave. "Praise Ye the Lord" is in secong place, and four of the songs haven't been voted for at all. I'm surprised "Chameleon" has only 4 votes. Not surprised that no one voted for songs 7 and 9, because I think they are a little weak compared to the rest of the album.

This was the first good 'album'. The first three albums had a couple of good songs and could have been combined into one good effort. Never Say Die was the first one you could play all the way through for a friend and not have to apologize for the weaker songs. Also marked the beginning of a more solid line-up. Or at least as solid as defined by Petra standards.

OK well this poll concludes.

Here are the results..

Angel Of Light [9]
Praise Ye The Lord [6]
Chameleon [4]
The Coloring Song [3]
For Annie [ 2 ]
Killing My Old Man [1]
Father Of Lights [1]
Without Him We Can Do Nothing [0]
Never Say Die [0]
I Can Be Friends With You [0]

The clear winner is.....! Angel Of Light. Even with the two missing votes this song would have won.

Next up? "More Power To Ya" released in 1982. The album where all the pieces finally fell together. See ya all there.
