If you haven't seen it yet there is new and improved cover art for the "Ultimate Collection" CD. I think it's cool because it looks like the artwork from Bob's guitars. The people at EMI were kind enough to send it to me plus a small excerpt from the linear notes Bob wrote. Take a look here...

I've got the stuff posted too:

News item about Ultimate Collection

The playlist of song clips is updated also, in case you want to hear what songs are on it. The EMI rep tells me that not only are there 8 paragraphcs of liner notes written by Bob, but there are some vintage pictures in the CD packaging as well. Sounds cool!

Ah, much nicer on both counts. As someone who doesn't own any pre-Schlitt era Petra recordings, or any greatest hits compilations, I will definitely buy this.

At the Petra concert in Waterloo, IA (11/10/05), they were selling a T-shirt with a similar design. It was an map of the United States crammed with Petra album covers. I wanted to buy 3 shirts, but only had enough $$$ to buy two...the black "Farewell Tour" shirt w/tour dates, and the Petra sword logo shirt.

Kinda funny how they have the GOD FIXATION and REVIVAL album covers on there, but no songs from those albums are represented.

Guitar artwork, no way!!! I think I've heard that before!!

I suggested that guitar pick quard artwork should have been the Petra Farewell CD artwork but Jonathan thought that was a stupid idea. IMAGINE THAT!!

Whoa.

Can you quote me on that? I don't remember that exchange.

And just because I think an idea is stupid doesn't necessarily make it so.

quotes? Don't you remember

Don't you remember how I said I didn't like it when people tore my responses apart in quotes and how I couldn't figure out how to do it? Come on you have to remember that? No I cannot QUOTE you on that, because I don't know how! Beak

I don't remember that, but I won't tear your responses apart in quotes, since you asked nicely.

I don't remember that either.

Me neither. Someday though.

But since you cannot figure out how to pick apart my quotes and are really silly, I'll just go back to lurking.

Not stupid. Just unoriginal. A collage of all the other album covers for one final album cover...

Point taken.

As Jonathan pointed out above, I didn't say it was a "stupid" idea. I said it was unoriginal. My preference for "Farewell" would have been to have original artwork, ala the flying guitars or the warrior from "This Means War!"

However, I have a gut feeling Bob's work on this compilation may have inspired the new cover. I could be wrong, but that's my guess.

The rep from EMI that I spoke to last week said that the artwork was actually created by a fan, who sent it to Bob. Bob liked it so much he started putting it on the guitars. When they were working on the collection artwork the EMI art department made the version we saw previously (with the Back to the Street-era pic that we've all seen on the The Early Years Vol. I CD on it). And the Petra fans in EMI marketing were like, ew! Then Bob showed them the fan art, and the Petra fans in EMI marketing were like, COOL! and the art department was like, EW! and the Petra fans were like, are you a Petra fan? and the art department people were like, no. And the Petra fans were like, then you just can't understand!
