I loved the interviews on the dvd and the interviews with the Pet heads. I can't believe at lifeway it was only ten something with tax. I found the John and Greg interviews very fascinating. How Greg sings and how greg talks it's a totally different experience. Bob was talking about Petra's ministry on the dvd they have left a lasting and godly legacy for people to follow in. I'm so in awe of this dvd I was in the house jumping and singing along while no one else was around this is a nice treat when your on you vacation. Bye for and god bless all.

DVD

Post by unlost » Tue Mar 07, 2006 9:33 pm

I overpaid for mine at wal mart but didn't care.
DVD ends abruptly after bonus material. Duh, I believe fans would have liked Judas kiss instead of random fanfare.
Volz/Schlitt/Lawry interview was interesting.
Furler segment was too long.
Music rocked although Schlitt stayed in one place the whole time.
Overall it was good enough, but I think they had the ability to make it better if they wanted to. But I didn't think they intended to make a big production out of it anyway as it was not planned way ahead of time.
Great to see greg even though he looks like a complertely different person. If you never seen him in concert before, you don't get the sense that he was a real rocker.
Keyboard solo is not listed on the titles but it is on the DVD.
Too bad no Louie Weaver!
Even so, I'll watch it over & over again.....I can't accept the end of an era!

Well, I TRIED to but the thing today, but the Berean bookstore, Target and Best Buy did not have it. What a surprise -- not!

I noticed that, too. My favorite song on the video is Dance where Schlitt takes the mic in hand and kneels down to interact with the crowd. I wonder why he didn't move around more? Was the stage too small?

In a word -- Yes. The stage area was pretty small. Trust me, they all moved around a lot more when they had more room.

Just a quick note to take this subject off topic for a moment...

I've come to realize that RockOn needs to WALK ON...a treadmill more after seeing myself on the DVD! I know the camera is supposed to add 10 pounds but SHEESH!

I guess you could say that I was one of those people near the front who found it hard to jump for very long.

What I need is one more Petra-related product to help me change my sedintary lifestyle...THE PETRA WORKOUT! Sweatin' with the Savior.

Whaddaya think InPop? :D

Whoa! I've never been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, but I might be after watching this DVD. I did enjoy watching it though. I enjoyed seeing the band jam like they did in Irving. It was a lot of fun to watch. I enjoyed the band interviews also. I wondered why Bob's parts weren't with the rest of the band though. Enosh, now I have a face to go with you, as you are in the fantasy baseball league. I loved what you said about Petra being a ministry first.

The only "complaints" I had were the two shots of static, and bob's solo being cut. It didn't make sense to me that they cut it in the concert and then had the whole thing musically in the credits.

Overall, I think the complainers on here would be complainers in heaven if given the opportunity. It's a great DVD.

It's unfair to so flippantly dismiss the criticism, because much of it is valid and warranted even if you don't agree with it. Just a thought.

I feel the same way MountainMan. I was somwhat critical of the final product because not only does Petra deserve better but God does also. I'm sorry but in no way shape or form do I think this is Petra's or Inpop's best effort, and that is what God expects from us.

I am happy with the DVD and I am looking forward to it for many years to come.

I agree that God wants the best from us. But unless we are members of Petra, none of us have any room to complain about anything. If you don't like it, send it back to Inpop and ask for your money back.

I agree about Bob's solo being truncated - it is unnatural, and you can obviously tell that it was cut, both from the video and the audio soundtrack. I do not know the exact reason why it was truncated, but there should have been enough room left on the DVD to add the extra minute or so of the solo.

However, even though the DVD has minor glitches here and there, I must say that Inpop did a good job overall, especially with the limited budget and amount of time. The fact that they released the final CD less than 2 months after the recording says a lot. Keep in mind that Inpop did not have to do ANYTHING - they could simply have said "OK" when John and Bob told them of their intent to retire, and done nothing more. Instead, we got a cool live CD (finally, an official live CD featuring John Schlitt) and a DVD too.

Yes, I would have liked all of the video sections to be synchronized perfectly with the audio soundtrack. Yes, I would have liked to have seen the entire concert setlist on the DVD. Yes, I would have enjoyed it in DTS 5.1 surround sound. Each option would have cost more time and money. In order to fit the entire concert and special features onto one DVD, Inpop would have had to use a dual-layer disc (and the appropriate recording equipment) to make everything fit (single layer DVDs store approximately 2 hours' worth of audio and video; the DVD of Farewell is about 10 mins shy of 2 hours). In order to encode the audio into 5.1 format, Inpop would have had to spend more time and money making the appropriate surround sound mixes (which can take a LONG time to mix to get "just right"). Given the limited amount of time and resources that Inpop had, I would commend them for a job well done. Could it have been better in my opinion? Certainly - but peoples' opinions vary greatly anyway, so even if Inpop had spent $10 million and 2 years on the project, there would still be many people that would find some kind of imperfection. In fact, some people would probably complain about it being "overproduced," or that it "took too long" to make.

Simply put, my view is this: I'm happy to have SOMETHING showcasing Petra's Farewell Tour and commemorating its legacy of music and ministry, as opposed to NOTHING.

That's just my two cents' worth.
