ThePetraZone.com NOT recovered

Well, despite the fact that I put in a "backorder" for ThePetraZone.com, I was NOT able to recover it... some company in Hong Kong snagged it first, obviously to either try to sell it to us or to use it for their own purposes. So I guess for the forseeable future, ThePetraZone.net it is!

No joke:

They probably have an automated process that randomly buys domain names once they expire. Companies do this for one of two reasons: (1) to try to sell them to someone that REALLY wants them (like us), or (2) what is more likely in this case, to redirect them to their own sites. Someone would want to do this to drive traffic their way. For example, if for some bizarre reason the domain Yahoo.com expired and I was able to purchase it and redirect it to GuideToPetra.com, I would get a LOT of traffic the first day, and quite a bit of traffic every day until people changed their links in. Fortunately I don't think there are very many links to ThePetraZone.com, and most everyone has already made it over here by now anyway.

It's just for the few people that somehow haven't made it here already-like say, people who visit like once a year or so. It's not a lot of people, and anyone who really searches for it will find us here.

Still, that's disapointing. That way we would've had all the bases covered, but the fact you made the effort is good enough, Michael/Sue.D

com or net

One factor is that many people, I think, still think that all Web addresses end in dot-com and they don't realize that there are actually dozens of possible suffixes, from .net and .org to .edu, .info, .biz, .gov, and lots belonging to countries (.au, .tv, .jp, etc) So if you are something-dot-com it's a bit easier to communicate to people.

But outside of that, dot-net is probably more appropriate for this forum anyway... dot-com is supposed to be for commercial enterprises, and dot-net is supposed to be for non-commercial "networks." Dot-org is supposed to be for nonprofits. Of course, that is all kind of muddled now... even the USPS has USPS.com now in addition to USPS.gov .

Then how about this

Everyone that can afford it, head on over to GoDaddy.com and register an extention, say someone registers www.thepetrazone.org, another one does www.thepetrazone.info and so on.

And even see of PetraZone.com is taken. And then everyone forward them to this site.

GoDaddy is pretty cheap, at the most some of the domains are just 9.95 a year and sometimes they have specials going like 7.95 for registration

8) 8) 8) 8)

WOW MICHAEL
