The Offer Still Stands!

Post by judboy » Mon Dec 08, 2003 1:32 pm

Anyone who owns the VHS of CITAS and would like that on DVD-R complete with Chapter markers, stories, etc.. that is what I do on the side. I normally charge a much greater price for this service, but for Petra fans (since I am one myself) I will only charge $10.00 for the DVD authoring and media. I will send the finished product priority mail anywhere in USA. Please note: You must be willing to send your VHS copy which will be returned along with your DVD. Also, make sure your DVD player can play DVD-R media. The quality will be VHS or slightly better since it will be converted to the digital format. I am very pleased with my own copy, and I know if you are like me you will want to keep this for years to come. Everyone have a merry Christmas!!

Why?

Post by Michael » Mon Dec 08, 2003 2:18 pm

Jud, do you just sit at home and wait for me to post about CITS so you can try to sell people your service? If you're such a Petra fan, why don't you post anything but your commercial messages?

For the record... to my eyes, the chances of a LEGITIMATE DVD of the video happening are getting better all the time. And I know you're going to want to argue about legal backup copies and all that jargon. When the REAL DVD comes out, it will be better than VHS quality, and VHS quality is all you can give us because it's all you (or anyone) has to start from.

Michael, you are right about VHS quality or slightly better. All I am doing is offering a service that is offered all over the US. I hope they do come out with a new production DVD, but I am simply offering a service to other Petra fans. I do not get to post here alot because of staying busy at work, etc.. Remember, it does not make you a Petra fan just because you post at this board. I do not wish to offend you, all I am doing is offering an alternative. The main reason I wanted to put my VHS on DVD is for archival life because VHS will not last for the long haul. I think you are getting too worked up over all this. Check around with some video services in your phone book and see what they will charge you for this very service. No one has to do this, it is their choice. I am not making any money off of this either, in fact I will loose some especially by throwing in shipping. I have to buy the media + inserts + pay for ink to print labels + shrink wrap + shipping + my time.

CITAS

Whats the deal with the update then? We're getting how close now?

Until the wheels start turning on that, and someone official comes out and says they will re-release it, I see no problem with him offering that service.

I don't have a problem with it either. If I had a copy of CITAS, I would take him up on it.

And, I would also buy the production DVD if and when it comes out. In fact, I would buy 2 production DVDs just to further the cause, and Mike, I bet many other Petheads would too if that's what it takes to convince Starsong to bring it to market.

I have done some DVD authoring myself involving family movies, and it is a royal pain. I would gladly pay someone else $10 to make a backup.

Jud, I'm sorry to say, but I'm with MJ on this. You've been posting your commercial adds several times before and several times before people have made comments about it. I'm cool with your intention to make CITAS available for all petheads, but your posts have a commercial air around it, because you offered the same service before for much higher pricing. And since we're in the process of getting CITAS on DVD, just let it rest for a while. If the DVD-thing falls through, you might wanna offer this service again, but till then (if ever) it would seem better to me for you to not post on this subject again. Hey, brother, I love you!!

I appreciate your kind and Christ-like wording p-freak. I do make DVD's as a side job and I wanted to make a few dollars to start with because that is what I do (helps put food on my table), but after I thought it over, I decided to only charge $10.00; that way most of my cost will be covered and I would only loose a little money on each DVD. I just wanted to do something nice for the Petra community. Professional DVD authoring is very time consuming and expensive. Thank you for your suggestion. I guess I said all that to say; if it sounded like a commercial ad, then that is ok. I believe it is a good ad for any Petra fan, but I will take your words to heart.

I do see both sides to this... however, I certainly would not fault anybody for taking Jud up on his offer... what he says is very true about DVD authoring being very time consuming. And, I don't see this as anything that will compete with an official CITAS DVD release.

I agree, though, that we've seen enough ads. A lot of petheads have probably read the offer by now, and most will probably see it over the next several weeks.

You know... maybe we should have a forum for announcements of Petra items (or other items) for sale. I know I've posted about things on eBay before, my own and others (even today), and that would give us a place for those things. I just don't know if people will go there and see them or not.

Myself, I actually click on "view all new posts since last visit" every time I stop in, so I generally see all the new topics in all forums anyway.

Or is that really necessary?

Thank you for pointing that out, Mike. I didn't realize you could do that. I will do that from now on.

As for the separate forum for Petra items, I think it's a great idea. I'm sure people who are looking for stuff would check it out.

Sure, man, I'm not mad at you. Hey, pop in once or twice a week and post something else on the board! Become a part of the community and people will be more likely to trust and take you seriously. Besides, we're a fun bunch... except for me because I'm real cranky and bite everyone's head off. LOL

The way you reacted to this whole discussion actually says good things about you... I think I'm going to take back my inital harsh statements (I won't remove them because it's unfair to make people wonder what subsequent posters were talking about, but consider this a public retraction).
