Whiteheart did a version of little drummer boy that was pretty rockin. I don't remember what album it was on but I'm sure you can figure that out now that you know, hopefully, which band it is.

Whiteheart has the best rendition of Little Drummer Boy I have ever heard. The CD was Sparrow Christmas which is now out of print. Looking forward to adding to our rotation on Dec 1

The song is also on their greatest hits album "Souvenirs"...
More guitar feedback then drums, but still a cool song.
Cool enough for me to keep in my whiteheart playlist.

The Violet Burning has also released a live-recording of Little Drummer Boy on one of the Underground CD. I think it's on volume 4. But as far as I can remember it's not a rock version.
This is probably not what you are looking for

Tortured Conscience, a Christian death metal band, did Little Drummer Boy on the
"A Brutal Christmas: The Season in Chaos" (a collection of Christian death metal and black metal bands covering traditional Christmas songs.)
The link above allows you to listen to samples of the songs from this CD. I will say that this CD is not for the traditional music listener, interesting nonetheless.

I believe that Joan Jett and the Black Hearts did a rock version from about 1980-81
thanks for the tips

I just downloaded LDB by Whiteheart (legally of course) and it IS pretty good! I never cared much for WH because they were way too Keyboardy but this song is great. I didn't find the Joan Jett version but her cover of Love Hurts was discovered and I can't stop playing it! Another reason I love this site.

Bob Seiger did one too.

One of my all time favorites. It stays true to the original while still being a solid, sock-you-in-the-gut rock song. I wish they had done a whole album of this stuff because most rock covers of Christmas songs are embarrassingly bad.

I was expecting some actual DRUMMING in the White Heart one. At least a solo. I mean, I could play the drum part in that song, and I have trouble keeping a steady rhythm with a shaker egg.

I think Paul Simmons should drum on "Little Drummer Boy". I don't care who records it, as long as Paul plays on it. Man, that would kick! Either that or have Tourniquet do a cover.
Ouch!

I went and listened to the soundclips. "A Brutal Christmas" is a fitting name indeed! Now, I'm a metalhead, but this was just, well, brutal!

It seriously gave me a headache! Maybe it's because it's death/black metal, which I'm not into...

Brutal indeed. Some of the songs work, some just don't. I like Joy to the World and Angels we have heard on high. My favorite is
Mary Did You Know.
It's a good album to listen to when you are just tired of all the nice-nice Christmas music.

Audio Adrenaline did a version of this song on the WOW Christmas 2002 disc. I just noticed this while going thru my collection. Have not listened to it yet to see if it is any good.
