Better Titles for new CD

Post by brent » Fri Nov 17, 2006 11:12 am

They should call the new album
SH!

Play off of their initials.

My first reaction upon viewing that?
Picture John's last name (Schlitt) - minus the "L"

Interesting concept, though.... certainly could be eye-catching. I like it (once I got past the you-know-what association).

I'm assuming you thought of it based on your own "HA!" recording company?

How about Cephas? I always pictured that name being used by former Petra guys. Although I had imagined a lineup like Louie, Greg X, Ronny, Pete, John L using that name while Petra was still touring.

Anyway, using bible names is putting yourself in a timewarp, unless it is something cool. Petra was the coolest of all and nobody has ever touched it, because it described what it was.

A current band name with longevity will not have numbers in it, numbers in place of words, or a z for an s. I will put money on it.

Well, HA! was not the inspiration exactly. But the same thing applies. It needs to be simple and eye catching from a distance. Every successful band with a green tree has had good branding. A good logo, or abreviation that was simple and readable at a distance.

Cephas. Too much like Bocephus.....but no worse than IIGuyz. I don't know, If "Worship Till The Cops Comes" does well, I guess they could always do a live follow-up album and call it "Captured in Crime and Space".

The Cephas thing was just a joke, seeing as it also means "Rock". Petra=Cephas, just different languages.

The album title doesn't really bother me to be honest, but "II Guyz From Petra" is pretty lousy for a group name. Why couldn't they have gone with something a little classier like "Hartman & Schlitt"? Or were they afraid the album wouldn't sell without the Petra association? And if that's the case, why not just call themselves "Petra II" or some such?

"Hartman & Schlitt" fits an acoustic project very well.

but suddenly i caught myself thinking that they could use the name Petra.

why not? essentially, Petra is Bob and Bob is Petra. and Bob kinda chose John to be "the other side of Petra" so to speak. it seems most of the decisions the band made in the last years were shared by Bob and John.

so if they are Petra, why not release an album as Petra? Petra called it quits? yes. they ended their ministry the way it used ot be, which means no more contracts with recording companies, no more touring, no more releasing an album each 1 and a half year or so.

but (in my mind) that doesn't mean the band Petra cannot release any more albums - or books or DVD versions of old VHS's or anything else- in the market, at the time and in the way they choose better.

Howzabout...

Post by RockOn » Mon Nov 20, 2006 3:15 pm

I was looking around for equivalent names to Petra that Bob and John could use as an alternative for their CD.

So...howzabout Petros or Kepha?

Here's what I found:

The Aramaic word kepha is translated petra or petros in Greek. The two words are synonyms in first century Greek.

If there are any seminary students out there please correct me if my info is wrong.

I actually prefer the Hartman/Schlitt combo. It's classy and doesn't try to take anything from the Petra legacy--they stand alone.

Also, I'm not as fond of the title (unless they have a song on the CD titled 'Worship til the Cops Come'"). I mean..why would they stop worshipping once the cops got there? Shouldn't we be Christians in season and out? :)

I don't really have any better suggestions at the moment, but I'm sure someone could come up with something more suitable IMHO. I say this in the most loving way possible of course. No offense meant to those who have been working so diligently on this project.

I'm just glad to have another Hartman/Schlitt CD!

Please pardon the silly question. What is wrong with the title they already have?
