BAD NEWS FOR PETRA & THE GRAMMYS

Robert Randolph and the Family Band are scheduled to perform at the Grammys and it will be broadcast on World Wide TV. So this basically means Robert Randolph will win the Grammy for best Rock Artist. This really sucks, because this style of music is in way rock. They should be put in a different catagory.

How? Why? Huh? How can this be?
How did you find out they were performing?

Who in the world is Robert Randolph? Am I out of it that much or something?
Necessarily

I don't think a performance on the show necessarily means that they will win; it just means they're performing on the show. Besides, they are also nominated in another category, so they could win that one and lose to Petra on this one.

I found it on CMCENTRAL.COM on their news link. When an artist is up for a Grammy and performs on the show they win 9/10. I did not hear about this artist until they were nominated, so I went to Wherehouse music and listened to the CD and I will have to say I am not into that style and that it in no way rock music.

I've been trying to get you guys to buy RR&tFB's Unclassified for months now. I can't believe anybody here doesn't know who they are.
I think they have to be the frontrunners, because they've gotten so much attention, and deservedly so. Rolling Stone gave them a great writeup, and I heard they really brought the house down at Cornerstone. And this album rocks my socks off.
I'll be happy if either Petra or Robert Randolph wins, because I think they made the two best albums of the year in CCM.

Well, I have not heard of Robert Randolph or The Family Band either.
I don't see why it's so surprising that few people here have heard of them. I can't think of any Christian music media that plays any of their music.

This may be bad to say but...
Maybe its revenge for winning on "Double Take" when maybe Petra shouldn't have. Now Petra REALLY deserves it this time and maybe we won't.

They deserved to win for Double Take as well. It's an excellent album, easily one of the best acoustic cover albums ever made.

AMEN to that!
If people could look past the fact that when the album came out all the fans were wanting a ROCK album and they got an ACOUSTIC COVER album- peoplw would see that this is a very ARTSY album that can stand all on it's own.
But we could beat this topic to ... and it has been beaten to .... so to each his own!

I hate to bring this up, but saying "Double Take" is one of the best acoustic cover albums ever made is kind of like saying the Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most structurally sound buildings constructed on soft ground with an unsteady foundation...
In other words, there ain't that many of them, so it's not hard to say DT is "one of the best" in that category... I'd agree that it's a good album, and it's an album that probably deserved a Grammy because of its technical talent and overall appeal to Grammy voters...
From the one song I've heard from Randolph Family whatever, I wouldn't be terribly upset if they won the Grammy either. They sound really good; kind of an old school funk-rock thing...

I'm not saying I dislike "Double Take", I have 2 copies. I just didn't think it was going to win the grammy. I'll agree the type of music was great for the time, since acoustics were getting big with MTV. If it were up to me, Petra would win all the time, but its up to the few Grammy people who aren't always in touch with the world(in my opinion).
Good luck to Petra on winning a Grammy.

Actually, there have been quite a few acoustic cover albums over the years (Christian and secular). Problem is, few of them are notable, like Double Take.

Hel-LOOOOO, didn't you guys ever hear of MTV's "Unplugged"? OK, so Double Take was like ten years too late for the trend, but there were a number of CDs that came out of that show, and several of them were Grammy winners.
