What song?

We all know there are certain songs Petra will sing on this WORLD tour but what certain song from the John Schlitt era would you like to hear Greg Volz sing?

It's not a Petra song, it's on Shake, but I think he would do a good job on Road to Calvary. He might not be able to sing it as low as John, but even higher it would sound good. He can do the bluesy/rock thing well so I think that would be a good one. I'm not sure if there are any John-era Petra songs he would sound really good on.....maybe some of the praise & worship ballads like We Exalt Thee.

If I could pick just one song it would be Mine Field. I also think a couple of the songs from Back to the Street (i.e. Altar Ego, Another Crossroad) would turn out really good.

Mine Field is probably the one he would need to stay away from; That song needs a strong raspy rock voice and Greg doesnt have that.

The most obvious choice is Friends (All in the Family of God).

That song should not be sung by any one ... at any time ... for any reason.

I don't know how that track got on the PP:TRCO anyway. I imagine the production meeting went something like this:
Producer: Look Bob, the contract says we need one more track for this CD!

Bob: Well, we've can either include "Friends, All In The Family Of God", or this recording we have of Louie scraping his finger nails on a chalkboard.

Producer: Man! That's a tough choice! Why don't we flip a coin?

As for Greg doing a John song ... I'd really rather he didn't.

Well seeing as how I am seeing John this saturday I must say I don't want to hear Greg do John stuff at this time cause John is doing Johns stuff. I would go to CLASSIC PETRA to hear God forbid CLASSIC PETRA MUSIC!!!!

But in the interest of debate perhaps No Doubt. I think Greg could do that nice.

Weren't some of the Back to the Street songs written before Greg left the band and done with his vocal style in mind? It would at least make sense for him to perform those songs, whichever they are. But otherwise I can't fathom why he'd do any Schlitt songs, or why anyone would really want him to.

I have always thought that Greg could sing pretty much anything from BTTS because I really don't think the sound of that album is all that different from the sound of BTS except for Beat the System's over emphasis on the techno keyboardy stuff, but otherwise, not that different. In all honesty though, I'd rather he didn't go down the road of singing John's stuff. Classic Petra should be classic Petra. To me, it never really sounded right to hear John sing Greg's stuff either, though he did get a little better at it as the years went on and I know it was necessary for him to sing those songs, but personally, I just don't think it was his strong suit and I don't think Greg singing John's stuff would be his strong suit either. I'm sure he could do fine on some of the mellow ones, but I'd rather he stay away from that whole era.
