Not of This World

After a few years on my CD rack, I dug this gem out and gave it a listen again.
What a great album. From start to back, it has great songs. The production is a bit dated, but the music and lyrics are extremely strong. My favorites are Occupy, God Pleaser, Grave Robber, Bema Seat and Blinded Eyes. Lift Him Up and Not by Site are teriffic praise tunes. My only issue that I believe it's a Columbia House CD, and the overall volume is low and not that clean, but thats not a Petra thing.
I could easily see 3-4 songs being used off of this for the new CD, but in reality, it probably won't happen.
So if you haven't listened to that CD front to back in awhile, I encourage you to dig it out.

Before "This Means War" was released, it was my favorite Petra album. It was the first Petra ... the first Christian Rock ... cassette I actually owned. I played it until it died.
Then I bought the CD.

GraveRobber, Doxology, Not of this World and Bema Seat are my favorites... And that giant SpaceGuitar too.

It was a great album, but I feel MPTY was just so much richer in lyrics. NOTW seem to me to start out too slow; the song NOTW should have sped up a little bit and maybe put somewhere on the Album. The songs that stand out for me are: Blinded Eyes, Not By Sight, Occupy, and Pied Piper.

See... NOTW is one of my bottom 5 Petra albums... but NOT because it doesn't sound like "Petra". It's just not my style. I will give it props by saying the sound is clean... but its so clean and crisp it reminds me of Stryper's IGWT. MY favorite Greg X album is Washes Whiter Than, with Beat The System no. 2.

MPTY and NOTW were the height of Petra's creativity, imo.

Very funny information but is the truth. The Back to the Street was the last of the Flying Guitars... At the moment.

I think that John Slick must have been listening to a solid week of Vangelis before recording Visions. That song always makes me want to watch Blade Runner.

As I wrote in an earlier post, I like Visions(Doxology). But of the two Visions versions in the Album my favorite is the second: Visions(Reprise).
