Four Active Versions of Petra (sort of)

There seems to be a lot of debate surrounding the confusion of two current Petras. In effect there are four active bands of Petra members: Petra (Farewell lineup), Classic Petra (CITAS lineup), II Guys from Petra (Bob & John) and GHF (3/4 of the original lineup. Perhaps we should treat Classic Petra like GHF and II Guys. They are a band comprised of former members of Petra that is separate from Petra. Petra shall remain a band that retired in 2005 and that occasionally does reunion shows with the Farewell lineup.
Thoughts?

Do we really have to kick this dead horse again? We have already talked about this a number of times on here.

Sorry. I didn't know that. I hadn't been on for a while until recently. All I was seeing was people talking about who the 'current' members of Petra should be. So if you're saying this has been debated before, it didn't look to me like the issue had been resolved.

Oh yeah, I forgot about GHF. I lent my CD out to someone and never saw it again. Great. Hope they love it.

It's a personal preferance thing. I've been a Petra fan since the mid 80's. Personally I think they sounded the best from Jekyll & Hyde thru Farewell. So to me Petra in my head will always be Bob, John S, Greg B, Paul.

My Petra will always be the Dream Team, but I am stoked about classic Petra coming back.

I have it in my head that this new classic Petra project should sound like Jekyll & Hyde because that waqs the latest recording that sounded edgy and modern. I know that it won't though cause Volz isn't that style of singer. I am still excited about it also.

I say Petra is as Petra does. If they do a concert with Bob, John Greg and whoever, that's Petra. If they do an album and tour with the classic line up, that's Petra. But no Petra is Petra without Bob, so that's the way I see it.

As long as Bob Hartman is involved in all Petra "Versions" there will be no problem. He is the Founder, Main Guitarist, Main Songwriter, Executive Producer, Backing Vocals... Well, we know who's Bob...

Does anyone know if they're still around? I haven't heard from them since their live album in 2005. That's actually the only CD they ever made as GHF. They had a CD out before that as GHD, but John DeGroff wasn't part of it then. The GHF Honestly Live album is Bill Glover, Greg Hough and John DeGroff. They played some old Petra songs, even a cut that never made it to any record. I found this recording (Rockin' On With Jesus) somewhere (I think Doug Sands tipped me off) and passed it on to Bill Glover. He was so excited that he made the original Petra re-learn the song from this recording. I think they actually played it at one of the three original Petra reunions in 2004/2005.
