I hated that record when it came out. I did not get it. Now I think it is one of the coolest things he did.

Did not like it when it first came out but it grew on me. John had 2 good albums back to back, and both of these albums were alot better then what Petra was doing at the time.

was ahead of its time, would like to see John go down this path with his next album.

Had some killer session players, both the Huffs I think.

I actually thought that "Unfit" was the sort of music that Petra should have been doing rather than going the bland (IMO) AC they seemed to attempt. Years later, my opinion hasn't changed. When the lead singer's solo stuff rocks harder than the music his band is putting out, it's a problem...particularly when that band is supposed to be the epitome of Christian rock. I still believe that if Petra had made this sort of music they would not have lost the significant portion of their fan base that they did!

"I Killed a Man" is still one of my favorite songs. Lyrically, it fits right in with the old Petra themes ("Killing My Old Man," "All Over Me"). I halfway consider these albums to be Petra albums anyway. Three-fourths of a band is the sound of the lead vocalist, imo. The rest is the songwriting and guitar work, and really then only if they're particularly distinctive.

I loved it when it came out and still love it today. my favorite songs to play when i played with john were his solo stuff

I killed a man
Need I remind you
Save me
God is too big
inside of you
Wake the dead
And let it show

Great songs!

John's solo CDs are great. I like all of them, but I really like Shake a lot.

I'm seriously hoping that John's next album is rocking out of the gate! I liked "The Grafting," but I happen to like it when John rocks out more! I know what John means when he talks about getting older and his audience mellowing...but IMO that only goes so far. His voice is just eminently suitable for rock...and my feeling has always been, as long as its still legitimate within the context of the individual...then go for it! Unleash the beast JOHN!!!
:P :P :P :P

John Schlitt, I'm going to say something to you: "Every day I'm getting older but not mellower. I want Rock... Christian Rock. Thank You."... 8)
