Third Classic Petra Album - All New Songs

Post by Preacherman777 » Wed Dec 22, 2010 10:18 am

I haven't seen much reaction to this since it was announced on the other thread. How do people feel about? Are you bummed that we will only get 20 reworked classics instead of the 30 we thought we were going to have, or are you glad that we will be getting an album of all new material sooner than anyone expected?

Personally, I'm thrilled at the news. More new stuff from Petra! It's nice to be spoiled.

I'm somewhat split on the matter. Yes its great, we will actually be getting a whole new album, but at the same time I was really looking forward to 3 albums of the classics remade with a couple of new tunes thrown in. I think the classics on BTTR really are the ones that stand out and not the 2 new tunes; Too me they seem like filler songs just to fill space. IMO if the new album(with all new songs) is anything like the new tunes on BTTR than I think there will be more disappointment than excitement.
To wrap it up though I will take whatever they give us and support it.

I love the plan. I'd rather see more new songs. The only down side is that I haven't been particularly fond of Greg's new music. It kind of seems like a pentacostal, tent meeting flavor of rock-n-roll.

If you're looking for a third remake CD I wouldn't worry too much. If these are successful I'm sure they'll do more. Just maybe not this year.

BTW, when they do finally get the tour underway, if they play anywhere with a sizeable crowd "Too Big To Fail" will be a live hit with fans. I think it was written with that in mind. It'll be the anthem that unites and ignites the crowd.

If "Back to the Rock" is anything to go by, I completely agree.

I'm actually quite good with Back to the Rock. Sure, I was a little disappointed at first, but it's grown on me. Besides, I'm pretty sure that any full Petra album will be just as they've always been, which is at least 80% Bob songs.

I think it's great news! A new Petra record with new music and the members of 1985. What more can you wish for!

Well, I could wish to be 18 years old and thin again, but that ain't gonna happen.

Remakes are nice and all, but I always prefer new material, so I'm very excited by this news.

Two albums of reworked classics seems a bit much to me, but three would be overkill so I welcome the third album being new. I really hope the songs have some zing. Maybe they can bring the Elefantes in to produce.

I'm definitely very excited about a full albums of all new songs. That's going to be great!

I'm only wondering now why they didn't continue like this after JAH. Or even start working like this after they fulfilled their contractual obligations to Word Records.

I would guess that the vision for this wasn't there at the time and I think Bob was a little frustrated with record companies at that point, so maybe he needed to take some time off. Anyway, I trust that God's timing will be perfect and that this will accomplish His will for it.

I think they should have been doing albums in house for a long time now. They have everything they need to get this done and keep it going.

So how many best ofs do we have already from PETRA? How many more do we want? BTTR ist nothing more than a best of new recorded with some modifications. I´d rather like to see do them new songs. Or is Bob out of stuff to write? In that case maybe it would be best to let PETRA rest in Peace. It´s nice seeing old bands coming back as we did hear from X-Sinner oder Ken Tamplin/Shout again. But then doing a real live recording would be better than to warm up old songs in the studio.
At least there should be new stuff on the record other than they did with BTTR.
